Chapter 3 - A little understanding goes a long way

Kayla breathed a sigh of relief that she wouldn’t have to face Isaac today. It still meant that she had to face her dance class friends though. They had been bugging her like crazy to tell them all about the kiss. She wasn’t sure how much longer she could hold out from saying how wonderful it was. The only thing she could thinkq to say was that they should have paid for a kiss if they really wanted to know.

She parked her Mum’s minivan out the front of the studio and let her friends clamber cheerfully from her car. She couldn’t help but glance at the spot where Isaac normally parked. The other day after class when she had seen his car there, her heart had started furiously pounding. She had been hardly able to breathe when he seemed to look in her direction.

Maybe she had imagined it but she thought he had sent a wink her way. Sure, it had freaked her out that he was suddenly paying her attention but secretly she was thrilled as well. She had panicked and quickly said her goodbyes before getting in her car and leaving.

She had to laugh at her overactive imagination then. She was sure that wink had been aimed at one of the prettier girls that were in her dance class. It wasn’t like Isaac Thornton; one of the hottest and most notorious guys at her school was noticing her. The idea was plain ridiculous.

Having her Mum’s minivan today was her way of avoiding Isaac. It was more to stop encouraging her imagination than anything else was. Her heart was imagining all kinds of loving kisses with an Isaac who would actually want a relationship with her. She knew that was never going to happen but her heart refused to listen to her logic. Her crush on him only deepened with just a simple wink.

She put her heart and soul into her dancing instead of overthinking what happened with Isaac. She felt the rush of air as her limbs stretched and she moved gracefully around the room. She followed her dance instructor’s words as she spun and leaped in time with her friends.

Finally, dance practice was over filling Kayla with the rush of adrenaline at her achievements of the day. She relaxed back into the stretches she was doing, letting her mind wander. Inevitable it led straight to thoughts of Isaac and the way he had kissed her. She let out a sigh and touched her lips, knowing that she would treasure the memory for the rest of her life.

Someone shook her shoulder as the other girls fell into a giggling bunch of crazy. Nadia raised her eyebrows at her before pointing to the doorway. Kayla frowned, not happy at being the focus of whatever was going on.

“Isaac’s here!” One of the girls practically screamed at the same time that Kayla glanced in his direction.

She heard his voice that made her want to shiver, but she could barely see him as all the other girls surrounded him. The deep timbre of his laugh washed over her making breathing difficult and she knew it was time to leave.

She puzzled over his arrival as she used him as a distraction to head to the change room. She had no idea why he was here when she normally took her friend’s home on Wednesdays. It made no sense especially considering that she had heard him complain to Hayley about what else he could be doing numerous times before.

In the shower, she couldn’t help but picture him and sigh. The way his brown hair always looked mussed and messy, the gleam of those dark blue eyes or that devastating smile. He was perfection in looks and she had to admit at kissing as well.

The reminder of that kiss set her body on fire just thinking about it. She found herself drifting away on a blissful memory of those wonderfully soft lips. No wonder she was having trouble facing him, especially when she was mooning over him in the change room of her dance studio.
