Me and mother have lived a modest life. My mother, Reena L/n used to be a work for the Pinkertons as a insider, that was until several months ago when she was working on a case and got framed for a crime she didn't commit. A another Pinkerton, Alexander Rich, made a deal with Mother and swore to keep them both hidden from the other Pinkerton's, but demanded money in return for his 'gratitude'.
"Mom! I finished with today's chores can I head into town?" I asked as I quickly dropped a box inside of the house. A cloud of dust flew into the air as the rotting wooden box hit the floor. I ignored my mother's loud swearing erupting from the kitchen as I walked towards the room.
"Dammit Y/n, I told you be careful with that stuff. We ain't the exactly the richest people in town since I've left the agency. But yes, only if you get some beer while your out, we only have a few bottles left and we have company coming over later." Her voice rang out through the small house as she angrily cut up some carrots.
"It's just a box, we can make a new one if it breaks." I said annoyed as I crossed my arms and leaned on the door frame.
"I didn't raise you to be such a dumb little brat! Use your brain you stupid girl! I'm tired and stressed out from trying to make enough money to protect me and you from the damn O'driscolls and Pinkertons. All you do is bitch about every little thing, you inconsiderate leech!" She screamed as she threw a glass bottle at my head.
I ducked fast enough for it to miss me, but wasn't fast enough to block the shards from it breaking on the wall. Tiny little bits and shards fell down onto my face and arms and made tiny little cuts and scratches.
"Now get out of here! I have a even bigger mess to take care of now!" She screeched as I flew out of the home and nearly fell onto the dusty ground.
"Idiot."I mumbled and let out a small grumble as I shuffled away from the house, and over towards my horse, Alea. She was a fairly good horse, but due to our lack of money the poor shire had been becoming weaker and scrawny.
The stable master in Valentine gave Alea to me as a gift for helping him get his stolen horses back. During the process of getting his horses back, I had lost my old horse Cici. He felt bad and promised me a half-off deal on everything in the stable, plus a new horse that just came in from the Strawberry stables, which so happened to be Alea.
She let out a loud whiny as I approached her and stomped her 'furry' hooves into the dusty grass.
"Easy girl, get gotta go back into town for some things. Maybe we can run buy the stables and try to get you some proper food, I should hopefully have enough money for something good." I said as I unhitched her from the small run-down post and slid the reins over her head and neck. With a grunt I pulled myself up onto the old saddle and gently nudged her sides.
Alea let out a small snort as she quickly started to run, shocking me slightly as the grey shire charged down the path.
"Jesus Alea! Calm the hell down." I growled as I pulled back on the reins calming her down slightly. I came out of the trees and out onto the main path just to see a cart with 3 women and 2 men in the front pass in front of me. "Stupid idiots." I grumbled as I followed behind them into Valentine.
I heard one of the women point me out and looked up just to see both of the men driving look over at me, along with the rest of the ladies.
"Excuse me partner, but do you know where Valentine is?" The man driving called out to me as he slowed down to a stop. I ushered Alea to speed up a little and then slowed down to a stop next to him.
"I sure do. Would you like for me to show you how to get there?" I asked as I looked up at him.
"If you don't mind mam. Me and my friends here just moved here from up north so we don't know where to go, nor where everything is." He said motioning to the people in the cart. Right away I knew he was lying, he was a seasoned cowboy, or 'gunslinger' as some people still refer them to, and he knew it as well. People from up north would be dying to the heat, and would have a 'northern' accent, which these people don't.
"It's not a problem at all Mr?" I said motioning for him to follow me as I asked for his name.
"Arthur Morgan, this rag-tag group joining me, is Uncle, Tilly, Karen, and Mary-beth. So how long have you lived here if you don't mind me asking." He said as he motioned the horses forward.
"Only for a couple of years now. My mother was a former agent for the Pinkertons, but then we both were framed for a crime we didn't commit and now we are running from them, and them O'driscolls. Have you run into them yet?" I said only giving away a part of my history, there was no way in hell that I was gonna tell a group of strangers about me and my mother.
"I'm afraid we have as well. We were gonna settle down much a little further up north but then they decided to come after us. We've been trying to stay away from them and settle down somewhere, but they are persistent." Arthur said stumbling over some of his words, as he spoke. I heard the way the girls quickly stopped talking when Arthur and I mentioned both the O'driscolls and the Pinkertons.
"Well if you guys ever need anything, help, direction, shelter, supplies, hiding, come find me down at the river not far from here. But If I'm not there, I'm usually in Valentine helping the stable master out, or out in the heartlands." I said as I stopped at the entrance of Valentine. Arthur drove up next to me before stopping beside me once again.
"Well thank you again Ms?" Arthur said glancing down at me with a smile.
"Y/n L/n at your service, and It's not a problem at all Mr. Morgan. Like I said before anytime you or your friends need some help feel free to come find me, I'll be more than willing to help."
"Before you go, take this!" Mary-beth said leaning over the side of the wagon and handed me a small clip of money. I looked over it and saw that it easily had at least $50 in it.
"Oh my, I can't take this. It's too much!" I said trying to give it back to her.
"Please take it. You look like you need it hon, no offence, but your horse gives it away as well." She said motioning to Alea. The shire let out a impatient stomp and threw her head up and down in annoyance.
"Thank you. I have to repay you the next time we meet." I said looking up at her as she sat down in the cart.
"No, no, no, no! No repaying! This is your reward for helping us." Tilly said leaning over the side as well.
"All I did was lead you guys to town." I said motion to the Valentine with my hands.
"But you also gave us some good stories on our way over here. You made it a hundred times less boring, than if we were just left with these two numbskulls." Karen said backing up the other ladies in the cart.
"Well thank you ladies and gentlemen. But I must go and get some necessities for tonight, I wish you the best of luck until we meet again." I said doing a small bow in the Alea's saddle which made the ladies laugh a little. "See you sometime Arthur." I said giving him a small nod, which he returned with a soft grunt.
I gently kicked Alea's side and she snorted before softly galloping off into valentine, leaving the cart of women, and two bored men, behind me.
