I barely noticed morning as I quickly showered, and grabbed a bite to eat. The unfamiliar emotions of mine still lingered inside of me as his face occasionally popped up in my head. Each time, I pushed the thought away, focusing on what I was doing. His eyes were deep and enchanting, but I constantly reminded myself that he was a man, and men are filthy creatures that only think about how to take advantage of the weaker opposite sex. I chided my mental state and continued to write a letter back to the palace, hoping for my best penmanship. I continued writing, keeping things non-emotional but grateful to an extent. Once done, I had one of my messengers send my letter, before changing my clothes and grabbing my bamboo sticks. Several emotions were flying through my mind at the moment, and my head began to jab at me, with useless thoughts and nostalgia of my happy days.
"Mommy! Mommy! "
The short girl ran up to a beautiful woman, with long dark hair and a striking smile.
"Yes, dear? "Her voice sounded soft and gentle.
"I found a four leaf clover! "Nikki giggled, holding up the green leaved plant.
"Did you wish for something? "
The woman asked, brushing her long fingers through Nikki's white hair, admiring her daughter's beauty, much like her own.
"Yeah! I wished to live with you and daddy, forever and ever! "
Nikki smiled widely, earning an amused smile from her mother.
"Yeah.. mommy and daddy will stay with you for ever and ever. "And she kissed her forehead.
"I love you, sweetheart. "
"I love you too, mommy.. "
Third Person P.O.V:
Tears ran down her cheeks, her hands gripping the stick until her knuckles blanched. Her sensitivity heightened, and her mood dropped, her sword swung around, hitting each opponent in the head. As they groaned and rolled around, writhing in pain, Nikki just looked at them distastefully, before moving to dummies to continue letting out her anger. The frustration, stress and anger about her own helplessness burst through, eventually her bamboo sword ripping through the tightly bound straw dummies. She continued pushing herself, until late lunch, and one of her servants came with a small smile.
"It's lunchtime. "
The servant claimed, her voice calm and quiet.
"Yeah.. "
Nikki replied, putting her sword away, throwing another glance at the men who still haven't been able to get themselves up. Changing into a light piece, Nikki let her hair down, walking through the brightly illuminated halls of her house, into her room to have her lunch.
Lunch was light, how she liked, and went back to beating up a dummy. Nothing eventful today, like everyday. a thought slipped into her mind, a poisonous one, one that could change her perspective forever.
".... What if my life has no meaning... what if.... he was right? "
The bamboo stick fell from her hands, creating a soft thump on the dirt ground.
"... It can't be. "
Reasoning slipped from her reach, making everything she's built up so far feel meaningless and hollow. She could feel the strength being sapped away from her arms and legs, as she wobbled back into her house, collapsing on the floor as she curled up, desperate for some form of reliable comfort. Someone or something, anything to tell her that she was okay, that she wasn't meaningless, that she could be anything she dreamed of if she tried. But she had no one. Nikki buried her face in her knees, her hands cold and her body trembling, feeling as low and disgusting as she did before. It was a dark and consuming feeling, blotting out her thoughts and surroundings, leaving her alone in a void of crippling despair. Her act fell away, just revealing a small, scared child, who had to go through the horrors of reality all too soon. She wished to be in the warm arms of her mother, her father, her brother. Feeling protected and loved. But wishes only come true in fairy tales, don't they.
Around an hour passed. The feeling diminished a fair mount, but it still plagued her mind, somewhere in the dark corner, where she kept herself locked away. It was still the late afternoon, the bright sun shining upon her garden, the flowers smiling up happily. The warmth of the refreshing breeze. But it felt all like too much of an illusion, to hide the ugliness of the truth. The maids scuttled around outside in silence, debating with each other whether or not to bother her or not. Nikki just pulled herself onto her trembling legs, taking deep, regulated breaths. Or trying to. She called the two maids in.
"Yes? "They chimed.
"Accompany me.. "She whimpered.
"Of course.. "They couldn't help but let their sympathies seep into their tone, helping her change into more comfortable attire, and casually uplifting her mood. It was a sort of thing that came naturally to them for her, despite what she had happen to her, she reached out to them in their despair, helping them escape their miserable moments as well.
Though it took quite a bit, Nikki eventually opened up again, soon joking along with them.
"You two must be tired.. I'm sorry. Is dinner ready yet? "
"I'll go check. "
One piped up, getting up and walking out of the room with a smile. The sun was setting with a brilliant fade, and the once dreadfully hot air was now cooling down to more acceptable temperatures. She gazed out of the room, spacing out. She could feel his golden eyes staring me down again as Nikki snapped out of herself.
"It's almost ready. "
The one who had left, Suki, came back.
"Oh, really? What's for dinner? "
Nikki asked Suki.
"See and find out! "
She replied back cheerfully. She remembered their first meeting vividly. She had an abusive father, and one night, she escaped. She had walked for a few days, and was hungry and weak. Nikki came across her, and helped her up, fed and provided shelter. Grateful, she had come and joined her. Everyone else had similar background, and Nikki was one to help them all. To others she may seem cold and distant, hurt on the inside, maybe- but to them, she was a savior.
Nikki groaned, clinging onto Suki childishly.
"Just a few more minutes. "
Suki replied to her mistress's childlike actions. When dinner came around, she invited the entire house, even her sparring partner men with no alcohol, to eat together. Some eyed them in suspicion, but ate regardless. In the end, they all spent a joyous time. Deep into the night, Nikki looked up at the sky, her legs dangling off the platform leading to the garden. She couldn't sleep, and honestly, she never did sleep. Before long, she felt arms wrapping around her shoulders, gently, cautiously. She looked back, and was met with the golden eyes she longed for all day. He buried his face into her neck and shoulder crevasse, daring to lick her neck.
Her face burst red, and she let out a squeak. Hurriedly, she got out of his arms, hiding her face and arms.
"D-don't.. why... why would you do that? "She hissed, very clearly embarrassed.
"Your reaction is too cute, for me, milady.. if you continue to look at me that way, I might go crazy~ "
He smirked, walking up to her.
"I've waited long enough, hun. Throw me a bone here. "He licked his lips, approaching.
"Wha- "
His lips crashed onto hers, and although she could tell he was longing for much, much more, he took it slow. He pulled her body in close, smiling as if he was on the top of world, kissing her over and over again. All Nikki could do was stare into his endless eyes, and soon found herself enjoying it. He didn't force it, and his gaze was caring, different. She smiled as well, looking away in embarrassment and happiness.
"There's that smile I've been looking for.. "
He kissed her again, long, sweet. They took a breath and he lined the inside of her lips, almost teasing her to grant her permission. The moment it was granted, he explored every inch of her mouth and savoured it as if he'd never be able to do it again. Nikki smiled once they broke away.
"We just got a step closer to each other, alright? "He whispered.
"Okay.. "
