No dramatic entrance from me this time. Let's begin.

Fifteen minutes earlier...

The flames fizzled out around her, leaving only soot and charred wood where it once was. The shop would be hard to clean when Azzip came back, but at least there would be a shop to clean.

Almost against her will, Goldy looked over at the collapsed table, where she could see one of Unicorn's arms and a little bit of his head poking out from underneath. He wasn't directly underneath, so there was no danger of his head being crushed, but he might suffer a cracked rib or two.

If he survives, that is.. she thought, before pointedly throwing the thought away.

All will be fine, young one. I have sent someone to help him. You, however, must leave in case that.. devil comes back. As you are now, you won't be able to handle him. The female voice said again, though it was quieter, and the owner sounded exhausted.

"But.. I don't want to leave him." She said, still staring at the table.

I understand that it is painful to leave someone in their time of need. She said gently. But you must go, or you will be in grave danger.

"I thought I already was." She said, staring down at her hands, at the ring on her left. She couldn't bear to look at Unicorn's broken body anymore.

Tragic though the consequences may be, your friend averted your death and bought time. If you stay here, there will be no one to save you, and those who come to kill you will be much more thorough. Please, heed my words, and go, young one.

Goldy hesitated. "Will you promise me that he'll be safe?"

He will, I swear it. Take heart, child. This is not the end for him.

She swallowed. "Okay, I'll leave if you're certain he's safe."

Good. I'm... glad...  The voice was fading.

"Are you okay?"

Saving you... has drained the energy... I've accumulated... For now... I will sleep... until I am needed again...

Farewell... young... one... the voice said, and then went silent.

Goldy said nothing, walking towards the charred glass door, taking one last look at Unicorn before she left.

Present time...
Unicorn heard someone whistle softly.

"Man, Jacob must really hate pizza if he did this much damage." A male voice cut through the silence of the burned pizza place.

He tensed, then immediately regretted it when pain shot through his side. Hissing, he slowly released the tension in his body, until the ache became a mild throbbing, and he could focus.

A head appeared above him, and he looked up. A boy was standing over him, not much older than Unicorn himself was. He had long, brown hair and soft brown eyes, and they sparkled with an unknown emotion. Mischief, maybe? His square jaw was set into a thoughtful frown.

The boy squatted down,  tapping Unicorn on the forehead with his index finger a couple times.

"Okay, only a broken rib? Really, Jacob?" He laughed. "Man, he has gotten sloppy."
