"Jihyun you are so fucking stubborn! Just ask for help would you!?"
"I don't need anyone's help Seoyun! Just go away, leave me be damnit!"
Jihyun, 32, yelled as loud as he could muster and with all of his strength slammed his hands onto the dining room table while Seoyun, 29, stood in disbelief and shock. Her significant other of six years had finally hit his breaking point and she was unsure of how to handle this, never had he ever raised his voice to her let alone tell her to leave him be...
Because Jihyun could no longer stand his disability that hindered his sight since the long reined terror of an ex he once spent his life devoted to. No longer could he stand being led and not truly the leader. No longer could he stand the programs and the way everyone pitied him...
No longer could he be so weak.
"Jihyun... I... Nevermind."
Seoyun Ming shook her head and retrieved her purse from the kitchen counter along with her car keys, she was not about to deal with his attitude if this kept up. Seoyun wanted to spend time separated from him in order to calm the waters. She would rather not fight someone she loved...
He did not ask where she was going, he did not get up and stop her, Jihyun at that very moment in time was only concerned about his solitude.
She shut the door and he shut his mind off from the world...
•••
The red and blue lights shined through the windows, even someone like Jihyun could see the colors, as he was quick to jump to his feet out of his slumber on the couch when a gentle knock came through from the front door. The echo of the knock resonated from the door throughout the small shared condo with an ominous reverberation, it was almost eerie enough for him to abandon the whole thought.
"Hello? How may I help you officers?"
"Mr. Kim, is it correct that a Miss Ming shared this home with you?"
He nodded, not prepared for the words that were followed afterwards. His ear were ringing, the officer's voice sounded like they were muffled or underwater, and his eyesight, what he barely had left, blurred to darkness.
"Mr. Kim! Mr. Kim?! He-"
•••The evening passed without pushing Jihyun any further and the police allowed him this moment of peace. Their words seemed to be unrealistic because not even a couple of hours ago... She was right there, right in front of him and now... Now she will never be near him like she was before and he could hardly bare it.
There was so much on his mind, he had to arrange her funeral and let her family know... It was beginning to really set in now, having to tell his girlfriend's family that she died in a car accident because of a drunk driver that suddenly swerved into her lane and she was not able to escape them from hitting her head on...
It had been a couple of days since the police informed him about Seoyun. Her family had been informed and her funeral arrangements were made, all Jihyun had left to do was wait for the two weeks to be over and the funeral date to arrive, but he could not wait... His heart felt like it would explode at any moment, fond memories echoing in his mind no matter how he turned the tides... Oh how he missed the sound of her sweet voice...
Jihyun's thoughts were interrupted by a knock on his door, immediately his mind went back to the night his girlfriend was killed and just as fast as it arrived it had gone. He got up lazily and went to answer the door, it was a delivery man and he held a large box with holes in it with an envelope.
"Signature please Mr. Kim..."
"Uh... Y-yeah... Sure."
He gave the paper a quick scribble and retrieved the box and envelope then thank the man, who had already taken off with a quiet scoff. Jihyun shut and locked the door and then made his way back to the couch, which he plopped back down on. The envelope was what he first opened, inside was a bunch of forms about the condo, Seoyun's bank, along with several other documents he wasn't too concerned about once he picked up another envelope addressed to him, but instead of Jihyun it said To My Beloved Husband. His heart sank, she always called him husband playfully, but they never did get around to going through with it, he regretted this...
He shook the nerves off and opened the letter gently:
Hello my dear Jihyun,
If you are reading this then that means I am no longer there with you. I'm so sorry for everything you are going through, but you must. Inside the box is someone special, please don't be sad for too long! Crying never suit you very well my love, but your smile was my favorite part of my days. I love you with every part of my beating heart.
With all my love, Seoyun Ming Kim
Jihyun was confused as he slowly set the letter down. He had to open that box before his anxiety got any worse than it already had been... When he undid the bindings that held the box together he was met with a thin cat with short legs, it was tiny and only had one eye. He could barely read the letter through his blurred vision, but he would be able make out the words with her large handwriting and it all gave this sense of calm...
She only did all of this because she didn't want him to be alone when she was gone... She couldn't have known about her death could she? Why would she prepare any of this before a spur of the moment argument?
Jihyun gently picked up the cat and brought it to his chest, it curled up against him immediately as it purred loudly. As he held the now sleeping cat, he bent down to grab the paper that was zip tied to the box. As he scanned the large print he found out the cat's name was Yunji, Seoyun must find it funny that it's name was similar to his. He also noted where she adopted the cat from, immediately his mind wandered to if he should investigate his hunches...
With his mind made up he decided to shower and get dressed up to work, there was something much more to this than it appeared to be and Jihyun was going to figure it out...
But first he needed to figure out what she did...
