life in Teasel

Teasel the place of fire and snow. This class reminds me of life in the jungle where only the strongest survive. At times I think it would have been in the best interest of any teacher handling that class to have the health records of these students. A class where the decent and trouble makers were lovers. They had everything. ..Dulcibella, who really felt matured for her class and spent most of her time hanging out with the seniors. Ziona (Aku) who only God knows what she ate was taller than her math teacher and her mates when she was in grade 6. I recall Juanita as childish student I ever handled. Nana Baah and Okine as students whose way of thinking raised lots of questions. One Ohenewaa and Esther who were notably popular for their sleeping disorders. Well let's say they had a match for themselves when their science teacher was their class Teacher. Mr frimpong had a lot of work to do if he was to get the best out of these girls. The constant conflicts between Teasel and Mr Frimpong reached its peak when the students reported their honourable class teacher to the headmistress. Their reports were full of lies even though it contained spots of incidents that happened in his absence. The awkward thing about it was that the victims and the oppressors had teamed up to report the arbitrator. Right away I knew this class was to bring the best out of me if I was going to take teaching seriously. I had to come out with rules that any student who was not disciplined will find it hard to survive. Then I came up with the maths club. Wow. I could only join whenever u scored above 90 in any class test. The pass mark was always 70% and anyone who failed to make the mark was ENCOURAGED. Some students fell in love with mathematics and so their performance shoot up. Sandra if my memories serves me right was the only student who never went out of the club. It was not a club of permanent members. You only stayed if you attained at least 90% . The criteria was high. Later we had the scrabble club which was to help these brilliant student improve their vocabulary. Teasel was hot on Wednesday. The student had on their time table science ,math and french. And all these teachers were strict in their own way. I think I was easiest of the three teachers. Their friend Teacher was one who never tolerated any nonsense and for these students who saw their own class teacher as a tyrant was way over the bar. They felt the need to study maths in order to survive. Students like Beatrice, Reindolf, Esther, Nana Baah and Ohenewaa would even in this era not buy into my way of doing things. For those I corrected and didn't take it lightly...well I have no regrets. My conscience is supporting documents in court. Comfrey was too cool. Don't still know which of these two is better. In terms of attitude....well u can help yourself with less said about Comfrey. Some mental drills Brought the best out of Abena Effa and Oworae. Kwame, Godfred, Akromah( this boy took a33  passport picture and his shows were on display)....still don't know why Sandra and Akroma.....Bernard was also one boy who was secretive and dangerous. He almost hurt me one time at games. The mos÷ day I recall was a football match between the girls of Teasel and Comfrey. It was a match worth recalling. The fights continued all the way to Junior High. To pick Josephine and Lydia as strikers for Comfrey was weird. They hid from the fights. Beatrice and Cedel were top match to handle. Agartha was the most talented girl I ever witnessed. I recall how I raised athletes from these students back then. Took them to train on the outside the school. They delivered during the sports festival. So comfortable in tight sportswear. Will never forget how Aku was a good runner and later forgot it when Godfred joined us in Junior High.
