chapter 1 the shadow

It was a cold and dark night in October When this all began. Sam and Elijah were heading to Sam's place off campus to chill just off of 6 o clock. The only thing we were planning on doing was getting high and call it a night.They just got to Sam's 3 story pent house apartment. Sams on the 1st floor. While Elijah lived on campus. I opened the door of my apartment. And led Elijah inside as he said " nice place you got here Sam". Sam replied "thanks, make yourself at home". Sam continued as he looked down on his phone with a text that popped up saying babe when you wanna meet for dinner tonight.Sam replied typing with a shocked look on his face for he promised to have dinner with his girlfriend.Due to him canceling the last one cause of work.He turned to Elijah real quick as he said "I can't chill tonight i got a date with Jessica". Elijah replied saying "wish i knew that before i came, could have just stayed at my dorm". Sam responded saying " just hang here tonight, theirs food in the fridge just clean up after your done". Elijah stopped Sam before he could take a step out the door grabbing him by his hood as Elijah said" hey don't forget protection man as he handed him a condom". Sam chuckled slightly as he took it as he walked out of his apartment.

Sam pulled up his phone and texted be their in five minutes.for the restaurant was walking distance for both Jessica and him since they went to the same college and both worked at two different places. Jessica works in a bakery that her mom owns. Jessica only worked for part time during the week so she can go to college so one day she could be a nurse and help people. While Sam had worked an office job on certain days of the week so he could go to college to be in the same degree of medical practice. New York university where he laid eyes on Jessica in class as they were sitting next to each other from the start. Sam met Elijah when he joined the navy getting out of high school. He had only served 3 years then decided to leave after his mother had passed. With the money that was left from his mothers will he had used for college and used what the money he got from the government for serving as a navy seal for his apartment. Around that time he met Jessica the love of his life. Sam was average height for his age white with black hair and dark blue eyes. As Sam walked to the restaurant to meet Jessica he pulled out a box in his pocket to with a fifty karat diamond ring for he was going to propose that night, he was wearing her favorite jacket of finest leather he had with skinny jeans and a blue polo shirt.

He had just walked in the door of the restaurant as he looked for Jessica since he was early so he ordered for a table and messaged his beloved Jessica that he was their as he pulled out the box with the ring he was going to propose with that night. Then he put it back in his pocket. Fifteen minutes go by till Jessica walked through the door of the restaurant she was a brunette with long thick hair , bright eyes. skin white as snow some would call her a vampire for how her skin complexion was. She was wearing a dark purple dress and some would say she was a model with the shape of her body. She pointed towards Sam as she told the waiter that she was with him. As she walked towards him to sit in the chair across from him as she said" sorry i'm late i had a later shift then i thought and i wanted to look nice for you tonight". Sam smiled and blushed slightly " i would have worn a suit but i figured you like this better". since it was her favorite outfit of his. She blushed as she said " i do ". as she smiled. The night was becoming late after they were done with their meal and asking about how their day was Sam said " i know we've been together for 2 years now as boyfriend and girlfriend and i was thinking. As he started to get on one knee and pulled out the box he continued."That we could be husband and wife".He opened the box revealing the ring. She said " Awe Baby " as she was trying to hold back the tears of joy that were dripping from her face. " Yes I will marry you"! She said in a cheerful voice as she smiled. He placed the ring upon her finger as he went to stand she pulled him close to her as she kissed him as the whole room went from silent to cheerful for the now happily engaged couple. As it was getting late they decided to leave. Sam told Jessica "Let me walk you home". As she smiled and said "i'd like that baby". As their hands were comforted with the other they walked to Jessica's place. As they walked closer and closer towards her place Jessica showed Sam an alleyway that led towards a shorter way to her apartment. As they walked slowly down the alleyway a shadow figure had formed in front of them. A guy wearing a black mask holding a gun in front of them as he said in a distorted voice "wallets now"Sam said shocked " here take it"as he threw it to him. " the man laughed menacingly as he aimed the gun towards Jessica and pulled the trigger as he vanished through the night sky. As Jessica collapsed to the ground Sam had comforted her in her final moments as Jessica said her last words "I love you " as she struggled for breath as she had looked into deep into Sams eyes as she died in his arms.Sam cried as he had placed one last kiss goodbye to the love of his life. Sam had called for help from his phone explaining the incident that had transpired. The police had arrived to take care of everything by finding out what happened and taking the body from the crime scene. As a Officer had taken him home for the night by a police officer as the officer walked him feet away from his apartment he said " I'm sorry for your loss , i promise you that we will do whatever it takes to find out who did this. Someone will come to ask you a few questions for now i suggest you get some rest for the night". Sam stuttered as he shook when he replied " yeah thanks officer". As Sam went into his apartment Elijah walked towards him saying "so how was the date , i'm surprised you stay at her place".As he paused to see tears were running down Sam's face he looked at him and said" We were walking to her place after i proposed we were, we were going to become more then we turned into a alleyway she said it was a short cut then a man came from no where with a gun. He wanted my wallet i gave it  to him and then he...he shot her and vanished". Elijah had pulled him close to hug him as he said" come here man ". As the night had faded to black with Sam not knowing but would soon feel the shadow of grief that would soon follow.
