Butterflies and glitter

After showering and brushing my teeth I lifted my head up as I sprayed my favorite perfume on my neck and my wrists. "Kira, are you ready?"

"I've been ready for ten minutes already." My cousin said as she looked at her watch.

"Let's go then." I took a last glance in the mirror. I was wearing my olive green slim trousers and a black sweatshirt paired with my black combat boots. The sweatshirt's sleeves were rolled up to my elbows under the black leather jacket I was also wearing. I turned off the lights and locked the door behind Kira and I.

When we arrived, my heart was fluttering from excitement. I made up a million scenarios of how the night would go, knowing that none of them would ever happen but still hoping they would.

We were outside a theater, looking for our group. Basically, one of our friends was performing in a play and she was a part of our group of friends. All of us would see each other from time to time. In that I mean maybe twice in three months or so after school and work and everything started and all of us became busy. We appreciated every minute spent with each other.

But maybe I appreciated them a bit more than others, and maybe with someone from others specifically.

"There they are." Kira started walking towards our friends as I followed her. I smiled at the sight of them. And my heart smiled at the sight of him.

"Hi guys!" Kira said as we hugged each one of them. I saved him for the last, making my hugs with people before him shorter and shorter.

"Hey Malachi!" I smiled and wrapped my arms around his neck, standing on my tiptoes. He placed his hands on my back, leaning down a bit, as he hugged me back.

"Hey Lilith." My nostrils filled with the scent of his cologne, my favorite smell, making my soul crumble inside me. I hugged him tighter. I could feel his broad shoulders under my arms. Our chests were almost pressed up. The thought of our hearts being so close made mine go crazy, like it wanted to tear through both of our chests and slip into his to keep him warm and make him feel loved.

"Should we go inside?" One of our friends, Inesmee said, making us pull away.

We just nodded and followed her inside. We sat down on the chairs in the auditorium. Malachi sat to my right, making him sit on the edge of our seats and of course I had something to do with it, while on my left I had Dimitri.

The scent Malachi gave off felt like heaven was being stuffed into my nose. His chest moved up and down in a rhythm and I wanted nothing more but to press my ear against his ribcage. His presence made my blood turn bubbly. My organs turned into butterflies and glitter. I had invisible chains around myself just in case I listened to what my heart desired.

I took my jacket off and as the audience filled with more and more people, I turned to Malachi.

"So how are you?"

"Normal, what about yourself?" His dark brown eyes looked into mine, making my breathing uneven.

"I'm good. I wanted to ask you about a dream I had."

"Shoot." He turned his body towards me, his large shoulders coming into full view.

"I was walking in a field of soft green grass and I was running towards sun. It was far, far away and I tripped over something when chasing it. I looked back and saw that the thing I tripped over, was the sun. I picked it up and looked up in front and saw that there was no sun anymore and it was actually in my hands now." I explained with my hands as he supported his chin with his hand on the arm of the chair.

"It could mean that the thing you want is closer than you think, maybe even in front of your nose." I tried my best not to smile. "You should look at your surroundings and stop wasting your energy on finding something you already have."
