SIX

A week passed fairly fast.

Working with Mr. Jeon was certainly trying, for the lack of a better word. The man didn't stop for a second, always alert, always analyzing everything.

He was demanding, which I could understand. You don't build a company as big as Jeon's by slacking and taking it all for granted. You work harder day after day, not stopping at anything.

That had certainly been proved true in the case of my boss.

He had given me more work than I could possibly handle, but I had managed it all in the assigned deadline.

So far, so good.

But he didn't seem impressed. No, no. I was only doing what I had been hired to do, no need to be congratulated or anything. Not even if I had done it all without having to ask him twice, or even without calling Mrs. Kang.

But it was okay, at least he wasn't yelling at me like Sora had mentioned he did sometimes when he got pissed at someone.

I had been working on a file he assigned to me for about two hours now, the thing was absolutely huge. Mr. Jeon had told me to revise it, have it printed and delivered to his desk by afternoon.

I was just finishing with the revision - thank God - and was ready to head to the print room. Picking a flash drive from the drawer, I saved the file and got up, waving at Sora as I passed by her desk.

I walked purposefully to the door, carefully entering the empty room. Mr. Jeon was in a meeting somewhere on the fifteenth floor, but should be heading up at any moment. I wanted to have the file ready for when he came back.

Sticking the flash drive into the USB port, I selected the options and started the print job. As I waited, I smoothed down my skirt and checked to see if all the buttons on my blouse were closed.

I had been risking coming to work in high heels. I had indeed been walking around a lot, what caused my feet to complain by the end of the afternoon, but I didn't really like how my boss seemed to tower over me on those first couple of days I came in wearing flats.

He was already intimidating while seated on his chair, I didn't need any other reasons to shrink under his inspection.

Resting my elbow on the printer, I leaned my head on my hand, watching as each printed sheet exited the machine and joined the others. It took about five minutes for the device to beep, saying the job was done.

Gathering my paper pile and the flash drive, I marched back to my desk to assemble it all together.

Once I was finished, I walked into my boss's office and left the finished file at the center of his desk, turning around and leaving right after. Just as I sat down on my chair, Mr. Jeon passed by me without acknowledging my presence, like always.

Thinking that it would be a good idea to make him happy, I got up again and headed for the coffee maker, making sure to get his coffee exactly how I had learned he liked it - strong, with a decent amount of sugar.

Picking up the mug, I carefully walked into his office, setting it down beside him.

He didn't thank me as he reached for it, as per usual. But that was his usual MO, so no surprise there.

I was ready to leave when his voice reverberated in the room.

- Miss Kim? - I turned, finding his eyes staring at me. Oh-oh, this isn't good. - What is this? - he asked, pushing the file I had placed onto his desk forward.

- The file you asked for, sir.

- I didn't ask for this file. This is the finished version of the Min Solutions' contract, I wanted the preliminary report on the Lee proposal. - he stated, hard eyes boring into mine.

Wait, what? He had asked for that file and only that file. I remembered it perfectly clear. He had summoned me to his office and asked me - well, as much as he could ask anything - to get it for him.

There was no mention of any other file, and I was not going crazy.

- Sir, I'm quite certain you only asked for this one ...

- Are you arguing with me, Ms. Kim? - he inquired, crossing his arms in front of his chest and making the shirt strain against his muscles.

Why am I even paying attention to that? Ugh.

- No. Of course not, Mr. Jeon. - I rushed into saying. - It's just that ...

- Ms. Kim, if you're not going to do your job properly, you might as well leave. I don't have time for petty discussions on how I conduct my business. - he said, threateningly low, as he looked at me angrily. - Especially not with you. Have I been clear?

I think I would have preferred if he had indeed yelled. This controlled rage was even worse than him raising his voice, the words curt and harsh.

Spat on my face.

Swallowing the lump in my throat and forcing the tears I knew would escape if I allowed them, back into my eyes, I nodded in confirmation. He didn't dim the intensity of his gaze and I realized he wanted more than just a visual agreement.

- Yes, Mr. Jeon. - I whispered just loud enough for him to hear.

- I hope this doesn't happen again, Ms. Kim. For your own good. Now, leave. - he barked at me, making me turn around and walk to the door as fast as I could without running out of there. - By the way, I expect the right file on my desk tomorrow morning, so I don't care if you have to stay in until midnight to finish it. Just get it done.

Turning to his computer, he went back to ignoring me as I walked out of his office and sank into my chair. I wasn't wrong, I was sure of it. But then again, he was the boss, therefore he had the last word, even if he had made a mistake.

Using my fingers to clean the tear that had managed to escape and shaking my head in dismissal, I logged onto the computer and searched for the file he wanted.

Glancing at the time at the corner of the screen, I realized the jerk was right. I would probably need to stay in way past midnight to get it finished in time.
