Golden State

Chapter One

September 8th, year 1215.
Once there was a little light. The little light flickered and sparked. The little light was young and weak. Days go by and the little light begins to fade as the once soft breeze turns into a harsh, heavy storm. In an attempt to flee to safety, the little light breaks through his weak exterior to flee into the safety of the night sky, there the little light met an old firefly.
"Who are you?" Asked the little light.
"I am the keeper." Replied the firefly in a confident tone.
"The keeper of what?" Curiously asked the little light.
"A curious one you are, kid" Said the firefly, trailing off he asks
"Do you have a name, little one?"
"What's that?" The little light asked in confusion.
"A name is something you go by. Something that all creatures you meet will come to know you by." Said the firefly in a seemingly distant voice.
"Then what's your name, mister?" Asked the curious little light, shining ever so slightly brighter.
"Boy, do you ask a lot of questions.." The firefly says trailing off once again into a soft chuckle, "The name's Jasper."
The little light smiled wide and shined brighter than the North star, but only for a second.
The firefly, now known to be Jasper, tries to come up with names for the little light, spark, flash, flame, scorn, and the little light doesn't think any of the names fit him. In frustration, the little light says, "Oh this is impossible! No one will ever remember me!"
Jasper, in a reassuring tone, tells the little light that it's okay to not know everything yet, for they are just a child.
As if on queue, daylight breaks and the little light flickers a dulls.
Jasper, in his raspy tone, asks "What's that there flicker you've got goin on?"
The little light lit up and said "Flicker! That's my name!"
The little light's name is Flicker. Years go by and the little light meets a Human Girl.
