Emeliano's pov
I regret this! I shouldn't have even considered this!
Here I am, trying really hard to focus on the screen in front of me and I swear, I've read the same line ten times over, ten fucking times! I sent a glare in Rebecca's direction, all she did was smile innocently at me before she continued humming, hitting her feet on the ground, and making this annoying noise with her fingers on the desk.
She was succeeding perfectly in distracting and frustrating me. Not like I expected her to be still and be kind enough to give me a little bit of sanity at my place of work, or anything. She had no reason to, and she probably hated my guts too much to care about my peace of mind.
I've tried to ignore her, tried to block out the annoying sounds she was making, but it was impossible because the more I tried to ignore her, the louder she got.
"Would you please stop." I managed out in probably the calmest tone I had ever taken with her.
She raised her gaze to meet mine, else widening with false innocence. "But what did I do?"
I held back a glare. "You know what you're doing, Rebecca. Just stop it, I'm trying really hard to concentrate here."
"Mkay, whatever you say." She smiled sweetly at me, the corners of her eyes creasing to show that she would rather be gutting me than smiling. I'm beginning to hate that smile.
It went quiet for a short while, and I settled into the silence, getting into the task at hand, until suddenly, she stood up, walking around my office. I wanted to ignore it too, concentrate on my work, and just pretend I was the only one in this space; it was futile because I couldn't help but follow her every movement, they way she silently but purposefully moved around my coffee table, her index finger rubbing across the surface; then to my book shelf, her fingers grazing gently at the spine of the books, as she shot me a look, raising her brow in question. "Why are you staring at me?" She asked.
Yes, why are you staring, Liano?
I hardened my stare before going back to focusing on my work, but I was soon distracted when I heard the muffled crash from Rebecca's direction.
Slowly, I raised my gaze to her, to find a pile of books on the floor, with her staring at it like she just created a time machine or something. Then she looked over at me, me a smile that was supposed to look apologetic, but was the complete opposite.
"Oops," she said as she bent down to pick them.
Letting out a shaky breath, I counted to three in my head before getting to my feet and walking over to her. I started down at her for a good three seconds before shaking my head and bending to help pick up the books.
"What's the end game?" I asked her.
"There's no end game, It was a mistake, why would I purposely make this mess?" She asked, slowly picking up the books, I raised my head a little and caught her staring at me, but she immediately bent her head and started to pick up the books.
"I know what you're doing." I said, standing back up and arranging the books on the shelves. Soon after, she did the same.
She made a show of blinking innocently, "What do you mean?"
"You're trying to frustrate me, aren't you? That's why you insisted on coming with me... Do you really think I'd get tired of you and maybe, release you?"
She pretended to think about it for a moment. "No... I don't think so... Seeing as you have other reasons for holding me hostage." My eyes widened at what she said.
She turned to walk away but I grabbed her arm, and harshly pulled her to face me, earning a gasp from her. "What do you mean by that?"
Her easy stance faltered for a moment, bringing on a look of fear, before she regained her composure. "Let go of me."
"Not until you tell me what you meant by what you said, Rebecca."
"What makes you think I'll tell you if you keep hurting my arm!" She yelled at me.
Reluctantly, I let go of her arm. "Talk."
She rubbed the now red part on her arm. "I overheard you and Piper, talking about this- Her. I know it has something to do with me."
Frowning, I responded. "Didn't your mother ever teach you not to eavesdrop on other people's conversations?"
"Didn't your mother ever teach you not to kidnap people?"
"No, she wasn't around much."
"Don't tell me you turned our this way due to mommy issues. I expected more."
"Why did you eves-drop?"
She shrugged. "I couldn't help it, I got more interested when I heard my name... What's really going on here, Emeliano? I have the right to know."
I walked back to my desk, determined to ignore her, I couldn't tell her, no. She doesn't need to know anything.
"Emeliano, I won't let you ignore me! You can't just keep me in the dark, who were you talking about?"
I gritted my teeth together as I turned to face her.
"It's none of your business! Drop it." I warned her, full on glaring.
"No." She said, and that only made me more angry, she knew how much I hated being said no to... And yet, she's determined to annoy me.
"Let it go, forget you ever heard anything." I told her.
"And I said no. I demand to know the truth, and don't think you can threaten me to take off my clothes this time- I don't care, you can't threaten me with anything anymore, cause it won't affect me. You've done your worst."
I tilted my head to a corner, "Have I now?" A small smirk made its way to my face, as a plan formed in my mind. I watched the determination drain from her face as she noticed the smirk I was giving her.
"Let's see about that, shall we?"
