His dogs are happy to see him when he makes it home that afternoon, but he doesn't have time to lavish in their attention. Amery decided to take himself up on the advice that he had given Sebastian earlier today. He needed to prepare for the worst.

While his dogs were outside doing their business, he called his baby brother.

Rex answered him on the first ring.

"Amery?" he answered, worry in his tone. "Are you okay?"

He chuckles. "I was just about to ask you that. How are you doing?"

"We're fine up here. Sage has been working double shifts at the station. People have been acting like the end of the world is coming, and- and I don't really blame them. It's scary out there. But what about you? You're closer."

"The hospital is preparing for the worst, but I don't think we'll be able to handle it. I think I am just going to go into my shift tomorrow, and then leave after that. But where to go? It isn't like we can hide from a disease."

"Maybe... Maybe we should reach out to Apa and Oma. They have good protection."

Amery finds himself tensing at the suggestion. "Yeah, because they are part of a cult and live in a compound. No way. You know they treat omegas there."

"But maybe..."

"Rex, no. We left, and that was hard enough. We aren't going back. All they'll do is marry us to some old alpha who already has six wives. They won't let you stay with Sage. They probably wouldn't even let him come in. They're horrible, and we are not going crawling back to them."

Rex is quiet for a minute before he mutters a quiet, "Okay."

"Now, you remember that tree house hotel where I worked when we first got out?"

"Yeah. That place was pretty cool. I wonder how Lyla and Addilynn are doing."

"We should try and meet up there. I would come up to you guys, but it seems like you're already in some trouble."

Rex lets out a long sigh. "That's for sure. Yeah, let's plan on it. I'll call Ellianna, unless the two of you have made up..?"

"She made me leave in the middle of my shift at work twice because she went to visit Apa and Oma and they wouldn't let her leave. She still wants to see them and almost ends up kidnapped each time..."

"Well, she was only five when we left."

Amery lets out a long sigh. "I know. She never saw the harsh realities of that place. But you would think she would learn the first time I had to come get her."

"She's stubborn, just like someone else I know," Rex has an amused tone to his voice, and Amery finds himself rolling his eyes.

"Well, if you could call her, that would be great. She probably wouldn't even answer if I called."

"True." They are both quiet before Rex speaks again. "I'll let you go then. Meet you at the treehouse hotel in a week?"

"Sounds good. Love you."

"Love you, too."

The line beeps as his brother hangs up. Rubbing his head, Amery looks around his home, already feeling overwhelmed. There is so much to do. He was oblivious at first, but he wasn't going to turn a blind eye anymore. If the government was so worried about this new virus that they got the military involved, then he wasn't going to brush it off.

Immediately, he starts to write a list of everything he needs to do. He has to finish by tonight before his shift tonight. He would leave first thing tomorrow morning once he was done.
