Hek woke up just like everyday. Slowly. Boringly. He rolled out of bed and accidentally pulled his tail. Like always. He, only half awake, stared at the commotion going on outside. Commotion. What a weird word. He would look up it's origin after work. He slowly stumbled down the stairs and fumbled with his cupboard door. The door had been built for unicorns. More specifically, the unicorns who happened to be his parents. But Hek was not a unicorn. And it annoyed him greatly
"Stupid genetics" he thought. "Stupid unicorns." Hek's heard a loud rumbling noise. "Stupid commotion".
Imagine cedar wood, that was about the color of his body. Or at least, the small hairs that covered his rather pink skin. Take that color, and surround it with dark tinged glass. The color that the wood would now appear is the color of his mane, which was blunt and rather strangely shaped, much to his hatred.
"Stupid hair" he thought. "Stupid genetics". Hearing another crash from outside he slowly stumbled over to his window and closed it, returning back to his condensed hay square and OJ. "Stupid OJ" he thought. He sipped it. "Delicious OJ" he corrected himself.
After finishing his breakfast and slowly putting on a tie, all the while humming loudly to quiet the obnoxious noise outside that would not stop no matter how many times he yelled from the kitchen table to shut up, Arthur was ready to for work.
Hek was forgetting something, wasn't he. He almost always forgot something. He blamed a bad upbringing. Trying to remember what it was, he decided he would think more about it at work. He wondered if he would be able to walk there without going insane, the commotion outside was so loud. Commotion. Wait. He thought for a second. Commotion. Work. Loud. Outside. Commotion. Work. Outside. Commotion.
Grabbing a snack bar he rushed outside. The streets were filled with ponies running for there lives. It seemed like a typical Monday. Then he looked down the street. At the end of the road, right outside the quill shop were he worked, there was a giant Minotaur laughing hysterically. Great, it was one of those days.
This had happened twice before already. Once the whole world was upside down for a few days, and then just when he was getting used to it the universe slapped him in the face and flipped it right side up again. The other time he had been talking to an earth pony at work, when it promptly grew wings and flew right out on him. He was pretty sure it was the universe rubbing the fact that he was an earth pony in his face but he wasn't sure because it seemed it have happened it everybody else too.
"Hek, tell me what that looks like to you." Said a voice from behind him.
"Well" Hek said thoughtfully, staring intently at the spectacle, "it would appear to be a Minotaur wrecking the street" he elaborated. Suddenly wondering who was behind him, he turned and saw a pink pony with frizzy hair and a huge smile on her face standing behind him.
Two thoughts went through his head at that moment. The first was very simple,
"Is she blind?" And the second one, a little more startling then the first, was "how does she know my name?" He stared at her dumbfounded. She smiled back. He turned and looked at the Minotaur. She smiled at the Minotaur. He looked back at her. She smiled again. Arthur sighed. The mare smiled wider. She seemed very happy that there was a giant beast destroying the road.
"Howdy" the mare said. "My name is Pinkie Pie, and I have never liked that road."
Arthur stared at her. Frankly he had never liked that road either. It had a bad vibe. Clearing his head, he opened his mouth to ask her a question.
"Wait." Pinkie Pie said "you probably want to know what's going on." She smiled wider. "However due to the fact that you are a dumwitted pony, you will likely never understand." Hek suspected she was right. Her wording seemed strange though, wasn't she a pony too? Frustrated, he turned, and turned to go back into his house. But the strange mare would not let him.
"Hek" she said, "I'm gong to give you an explanation. You won't understand it, but it may make you feel important".
