chapter one: chocolate cake

A stack of papers were sitting on the right side of my desk, waiting for my signature. My sign pen was trailing off, until it already had run out of ink. Considering all the paper works I have done today, it was not much of a surprise.
I look at my cup of coffee which sat on the opposite side of my desk, very distant to all the documents I had to work on. Well, I wouldn't want that to spill all over the files.
My eyes were shut with crinkling eyelids as I felt the icy substance flooding my mouth. It was not meant to be cold. How long have I been asleep?
I took a glance on my watch, groaning when I saw the hands of the clock point at those numbers. Oh no, I promised Andy a good dinner date today, I hope I didn't get him upset again.
I slung my bag to my shoulder, bolting to the elevator a few meters away. I bit my lip as I push the 'down' button for like–twenty-seven times until the metallic doors finally opened.
There were mirrors on every side of the small room. My eyes widen as my horrible reflection appeared before my eyes.
I sighed.
My dark brown hair was messed up all over my face, some–I mean–a lot of strands were struck up. My eyes had dark circles beneath them and my fading black eyeliner isn't making it any better.
I unzipped my bag, releasing the floral scent my perfume was giving. I reached out for my facial wet wipes which were good life savers on times like these.
I pulled out one wipe to erase the dark color on my eyes, making it look a lot better. Of course, I wouldn't forget my hair, so I tamed it with another wipe, and then I brushed it.These kind of things could really come in handy, I thought.
I waited a few minutes before the elevator finally arrived at ground floor. My office was on the top of the building, and I couldn't avoid getting a little headache from the ride.
I stepped out from the elevator, breathing in better air. I massaged my head as I continued to walk, a few of our employees greeting me here and there, and I just responded with a nod.
Yes, they are our employees. I work at my dad's company as a president, him being the chief executive officer, while my mom's busy with her own business. I was quite overwhelmed when my dad trusted me for such a position, but all these work get exhausting and I only find myself having a little amount of free time.
I went to a familiar red wooden desk to see if Lia, my secretary, was there. I see a red-head fumbling with her computer, and yeah, that's her.
“Call me if I'm needed here. I'll be out for a while,” I said,“Oh, and would you call Rey for me, please?” She nodded.
Lia stood up from her swivel chair, fixing the invisible wrinkles on her skirt. She then strutted her way to Rey, our company driver, but mostly my driver.
I sat on Lia's chair, which was really warm, by the way. I opened my bag once again, reaching for my make-up kit this time. I applied some powder, which was matching my pale complexion. Then I did my eyes, making it pop, and then I put some pink lip gloss on.
Just as I finished doing my make-up Lia has already brought Rey here, and I stood from her chair to get her back on her job.
Rey's hair was tousled, and he even has some dried up mucus near his eyes. “Good morning,” I said. We walked to the elevator.
