Author's Note:
The Redwood Frontier Series is the story of Redwood, Minnesota in late 1870's. Redwood is a a town located in the south central part of the state. The Redwood River is located to the north of the town and the southern part of the town is on the beginning of the prairie heading west.
To the south and east is New Ulm, a town larger than Redwood. Ten miles north of the Redwood River is the Minnesota River. The lumber camps and lumber mills use the river to transport lumber to Minneapolis.
During the years of 1873-1876, the area farmers were plagued with locusts which devastated their crops. Many families went broke, loss their farms and moved away, leaving the homesteads empty. As a town Redwood saw the influx of farm families moving to town looking for work and shelter in the winter.
Redwood had recovered from the 1862 Indian Wars, sending men to fight in the Civil War and a plague of locusts. But in the late seventies, the town is growing and the community of Redwood is pulling together to better the town and their lives. The strong independent women who worked beside their men as a team were courageous facing the perils of the frontier.
The series follows Isabel Grant Webster as she discovers friendship, love and determination to live a better life. In the first book, Porcelain White, the reader is introduce to John Webster and Isabel Grant as we follow their love story.
In 1876, western men sweep mail-order brides off their feet as soon as they arrive in town, but not Isabel Grant. Capt. Pichon rejects her for being "a skinny, school-girl" and is left in town to wait three days for the next train. Sgt. John Webster delivers the news to her and is drawn to protect this porcelain doll. Isabel discovers her independence, but she finds out she doesn't have the legal right to be independent. Will she go back to a life of poverty? Will she be forced to marry?
