It was 5:52 on a Sunday and the play i was in was about to start when he walked in. At first he just stared at me, his green eyes bring into mine. His red hair fell over his face, which was covered in freckles. He boke the stare.
"What are you?" he asked.
The girl behind me answered first. "I'm a tree, she's a bush-" she said going down the line before he cut her off.
"No, what are you?" he repeated, pointing at me.
My heart skipped a beat. "A-a peasant" I managed to stammer.
He nodded. "I'll meet you by the payphone in the lobby after the play." He told me this as though we were old freinds. Right before he walked out he gave me a little wave.
All of the other girls stared at me. I knew i was seconds away from getting bombarded with questions. I cringed in anticipation. Instead, Mrs. Nally, the play director, walked out.
"Places, girls, places! Chop chop!"
The lights dimmed and the opening music started. I took a deep breath and stepped out.

"So are you going to meet him?" my best friend Mallory questioned after the play. We were at the makeup station, contemplating the pros and cons of meeting the boy at the pay phone. I had secretly wanted a summer romance this year. This could be my chance. I scrubbed at my makeup, trying to get it off faster so I could go meet him.
"Yes. Who knows? Maybe I'll get a boyfriend this summer." I replied.
"Really?" Mallory squealed. I nodded. "Go! Go! Go!"
She pused me out of the makeup station and into the lobby. Most everyone had left, but i spotted him leaning against the payphone. I slowly walked towards him. When I reached him, he spoke.
"My name is Cody." Cody. the name tumbled through my mind. Cody. The name fit him.
"My name is Elodie." He nodded, his green eyes staring at me the whole time.
He stepped forward and stuck out his hand for me to hold. I did, and he lead me out of the building.
It was a beautiful evening, the last rays of light shining onto us as we strolled down the street. We walked in silence until we reached my house. How he knew where it was was a mystery.
"you were really good in the play" Cody said.
My cheeks flushed. I only had two lines and I had messed one of them up.
"I didn't do that well" I replied, hanging my head in embarrassment.
"No, you were perfect." Cody told me before he leaned in and kissed my cheek.
Butterflies danced in my stomach. No boy had ever been so sweet to me.
Cody waited until I was inside to leave. Once he was gone, I ran up to my room and flopped onto my bed with a giddy smille plastered onto my face. I knew this could could be the start of something.
