She was actually sent to the spirit world by the spirit king. Natsu and the others searched the whole of Fiore and were unable to find her. Natsu became lonely and thought that she was sent to Edolas just like Lisanna. When she came back she she was acting really strange and different... natsu noticed the sadness, loneliness, fear, pain but determination in lucy's eyes to do something. Just after 2-3 days of her arrival, she wanted to go on a mission for collecting all the zodiac keys and some mysterious keys. Everything is connected... the dragon's disappearance, death of lucy's mother and lucy... (for more info read the 1st chapter which is the summary of the book)
