sylvie:

i was sitting on kyle's bed, pretending to do my home work.i was really in no mood to study tonight.for the past half hour i was observing everything in kyle's room down to the last detail, including the streetlamp outside his window.it takes exactly twelve steps to reach the window from the door. there is one single crack in the plaster of the roof jusst above where was sitting...

"will you stop staring are the ceiling like it is the seventh wonder of the world?", kyle asked, abruptly stopping my observations.

"i'm not staring at the ceiling!", i wasn't staring. was i? No, was not.

"you had your mouth open sylvie, you were staring", he replied in an all knowing voice. He even sounded alittle amused

no use pretending now.

"i was bored!you have beenworking on your projeect thing since eons, and i was in no mood to do the homework.i had nothing to do and there is a crackin the plaster in your cceiling and.."

"ok. i get it. you don't want to do your home work.its alright. god its difficult to shut you up once you start your blabber, it was always like that.

yeah. it was always like that, before i found out the truth. a truth that changed my life, which was hidden from me.

im looked outside the window, wait, the street light was on. it is that dark out side already? what is the time?

" umm...Kyle ? what is the time?"

"wait..lemme check..", he took his phone out to check the time

" wow, time really runs out when you are staring at the ceiling huh? its late.hey, do you wanna stay for dinner?"

do i want to sta for dinner? yes, i do.

why? because i did not wanna go back to an empty house.

why was the house empty? because the man i call my father is outof the city for a couple of days.

and lastly, how did i know he was out of the city? there was a note on the fridge.

how responsible huh?leaving the house in the hands of a 17 year old . but its also kind of a relief. Atleast i don't have to make those formal and forced small talks with that man.

Kyle was still wating for my answer expectantly.

"ya.. sure, if that is ok. i don't wanna be a ..."

" oh, shut up. mom loves having you over.let me jus go tell her you are staying over for dinner.", he said, interrupting me , and left the room to go downstairs.

a few minutes later, Kyle came in asking me to come downstairs as well.

kyle's mom was already setting the table.

"hello Mrs. Jacobs",i greeted her.

"hello sylvie. it is so nice to have you over for dinner. you should come by more often." she said, giving me a half hug.

the food was delicious. absolutely delicious! " you are a wonderful cook mrs.jacobs. the food was amazing."

"oh, thank you. all the more reason for you to stop by for dinner more often now. Kyle loves having you around as well. he wouldn't stop talking about you. he..."

"ok . mom, that's enough . you've said enough", kyle warned her.

"ok, ok... don't deny it but..."

"ok mom!awkward,will you stop now?"

"i am stopping.stopping right now. sylvie dear,do you want to call your dad for a ride back or you want me to drop you off home?",Kyle's mom offered.

"oh, no. please, i'll just get the cab.my father is out of the city and.."

"are you on your own , alone in the house!?" kyle's mom, exclaimed.

"umm., yeah, for three days."

"you are not going anywhere alone.why don't you sleep here for the night? i'm sure Kyle can manage on the couch for a night".

"yeah, sure. Sylvie, you should stay over.",Kyle insisted.

"i really don't wanna put you all in trouble. " i pleaded them. they've already done so much for me .

"nonsense. you are staying and that is it.", kyle said in all finality.

"plus, you can meet Kyle's father. He is coming home tomorrow morning, after three months."

Kyle's dad? wow. he never spoke of his dad.i mean i saw pictures of him, on the wall along the stairs , but that was it.

"ok, i guess then i will stay forthe night.", i replied.

"that is wonderful. now both of you, off to do your work , and give me space to clear the table out.", kyle's mom said, grinning at me.

"Mrs. jacobs, do you need any help?".

"oh no. i'm fine here. i'll just clean up a little bit here and there."

Kyle and i left the room, leaving his mom alone, after thanking her for the food.

We were now sitting in his room, both silent. Kyle was deep in thought about something . the silence was not exactly awkward , but it was not totally comfortable as well

"so, your dad is coming huh? you never exactly spoke of him." i asked him, to fill the silence.

"well, you never asked me about him either.", he replied.

"well, where was he for three months?" i asked. Was i being too personal? i have no idea.

"he was away doing a research on some kind of vaccine and stuff in india".

"wow, that is great. ", i said not knowing what else to say.

"yep, its all very great", Kyle said.

ok, what's with the sarcasm? looks like he does not want to talk about it.i would n't force him to say anything, afterall , he has done the same for me, has he not?

its kinda wierd that we both have similar issues. first of, both of us have lost someone dear to us, and second, apparently, both of us have daddy -issues.

too many mistakes.. i know...sorry . had absolutely no time to edit..
