Adella sat in the backseat, a pout on her face as she stared out of the window. She never agreed to any of this. Adella never agreed to moving to Ingot, where mermaids didn't wait in swimming pools and eat people's swimsuits. Where statues didn't move towards you when you weren't looking. Adella wanted to go back home. She found it extremely unfair that bed bugs decided to invade her home. Couldn't they have just moved to that haunted-looking house down the street?
Adella's father looked at her through the back mirror. "Sweetie, it's fine. You're going to love it in Ingot. You'll make so many new fr-" "I don't care," the girl hissed through her teeth. "I don't want to leave our city. I don't want to leave the ghosts!" The girl had stubbornly declared, glaring at her father through the back mirror. Her father grumbled, turning his attention back to the road. "It's nice to have a break for a change. I was getting tired of the annoying little shits," the man murmured to himself, gripping the steering wheel tightly as he came to a stop at the red stop light.
