Janvi grabbed the sleepy child in her arms. When she leaned forward she could smell the strong stench of alcohol. The child whined, "Asha, you can talk to papa in the morning. Now go to sleep." She patted the child's back.
Giving a don't follow me look, she tucked the girl in her bed and closed the door and walked out. He was inside the kitchen. In his hands was a wine glass filled with wine.
He looked handsome as ever. The past years making him look more nature. His coal hair sweeped tp a side yet disheveled. He was wearing a shirt and pants. His shirt cuffed till his elbow.
"What are you doing here,Nikhil?" She walked past him and started washing the remaining dishes.
Nikhil leaned in closer to her, "Can't a husband visit his wife and children?" He slurred placing the wine glass on the counter.
Janvi felt the hairs on her neck stand up. She was very uncomfortable with Nikhil here. Sighing she turned around to find him leaning closer, with his both hands on the counter trapping her in between.
She turned her head and placed her palms on his chest to push him away. "Nikhil, please..." She pushed him away.
"Come on...it's been a decade." He whined.
Janvi pressed her temples to soothe the headache that was coming up. "Nikhil. We only got married because the girls and I needed a man's last name."
He swiped his hand over his hair, "I know. But after all that I have done....We're married, why put it off?"
"It's not going to happen. We have booked for a annulment . I don't mind you finding someone else."
"Why are you so frustrating?! I don't want anyone else!"
Janvi panicked and tried to change the topic.
"Why are you here, Nikhil?"
It seemed like Nikhil gave up too and she saw his shoulders relax. "I'm attending a party tomorrow. Everyone will bring their spouses. I need you to come with me for appearances sake."
Janvi shrugged, "Sure. Just message me the address."
She only breathed a sigh of relief after she had closed the door behind Nikhil. She slid down the door. She felt horrible. Nikhil was there to support her when there was no one. She couldn't even get the girls enrolled in nursery because she was a single mother. He was there then, he was there for her to lean on. But she couldn't combine her heart to love him or even like him.

The next day as she sat at her table looking at her company's reports, she wanted to hold her head. The company wasn't doing well. Everyone had pitched in a little for the company. It was going well at first but lately it wasn't.
She heard giggles coming from the other room. Frowning, she understood some mischief was brewing among the twins.
"What are you girls doing?" She asked stalking behind them. They were looking at her laptop. She looked closer and saw that they had ordered themselves some toys.
She gasped and rushed to them and canceled the order. "Girls!" She took a serious tone. She turned around with them looking at her wide eyed.
"You cannot order stuff like this. Why do you need more toys? Aghanya aunty and Viren uncle just brought you a doll house yesterday. If you do keep your antics, I'll take it away." She warned them.
The bobbed their heads and said sorry. She couldn't help but feel her heart melt. She hugged them. Her heart felt heavy with guilt of not earning enough.
