Sometimes I wonder how I survive all the way to Friday.
As soon as I finished taking my morning shower and getting dressed, I hear the front door open and shut. Instinctively, I grab the aspirin and a glass of water to meet the drunk "wonder woman" at the door. But when I get to the door, I was surprised to see my older brother standing at the door with a package in his hands.
"Long time no see, Mathew. It's nice to know that you still come to see us poor fellas." I set the aspirin and water down and walked over and gave him a hug.
"I take it that mom still does her "thing"?" Mathew gestures towards the "hangover kit"
"Yeah. So what are you doing here anyways?" I walked over towards the kitchen and opened the fridge.
"Well you see, I noticed that I have been busy the last few months and noticed the date. I decided that I needed to come over and see how my mother and sister were doing. But most importantly, I needed to deliver this overdue birthday gift." He sat the package down on the counter in front of me.
"What's in it?" I picked up the package and notice that it's not too heavy.
"Open it and see."
I sit down in the chair next to me and start to open the non-wrapped, brown package. I finally get it open to find a new addition pair of DC high tops. They were black with gold outlines. "Wow! Oh my... thanks so much!"
"Your welcome. But, I also came over to see if you would like-" He didn't get to finish saying what he wanted to say because that was when she rolled in, drunk as normal.
"You go to school before you're late, I will stay and take care of her." Mathew pushed the shoes towards me and pointed at the back door.
"Thanks again. See you later." I turned and grabbed my DC sweatshirt, that matched my shoes, and snuck threw the back door.
I made it to my car and noticed through the front, broken window that Mathew and mom were arguing. I could tell it was about me. I got in the car and started it up. While I was on my way to school, I noticed a car in my review mirror. I didn't recognize it but it looked like the diver was trying to get my attention. I pulled into the nearest gas station, not only to see what this person needed but, I also needed to fill up on gas and a small breakfast, since mom had to come in and interrupt my breakfast time.
When I got out, the mysterious car was already parked at the tank next to me. when I looked over, Johnson came walking up to me.
"Hay there. Nice car." I pushed the gas tank lid open and inserted the nozzle. "Were you trying to get my attention?"
"Yeah, your right tail light is out. Thought I ought to tell you before you got pulled over." He rounded the tank and and leaned against my car. "Have you had breakfast yet?"
I was a bit confused by the question, but i was feeling a bit awkward from the silence. "No i have not eaten breakfast. Sort of got distracted." Now i really felt awkward.
"Let me buy you something to eat. It's the best I can do since you helped me find my class the other day." He pulled out his wallet and proceeded towards the gas station.
"You don't owe me anything, you let me borrow your sweatshirt. If anything, I owe you." Speaking of sweatshirt, i reached back into the back of my car and grabbed the wrestling hoodie. "Here, I think I should return it. It's all washed and everything." I caught up with him and extended it to him.
"Keep it. Think of it as a helping hand." He walked into the gas station, and before I could stop him, my gas tank clicked, indicating that my gas tank was done filling.
After a good 5 minutes, Johnson came out of the station with a back of goodies. "Here you are my good lady." He placed the bag in the front driver side seat. "You won't be expected to pay me back." After that, he got back into his car and drove off.
"Well then." I got back into my car and placed the bag and sweatshirt into the passenger side seat, then drove off.
I got to school pretty early and went straight to my locker to drop off my stuff. But when I got to my locker, Johnson was sitting there, waiting for me. "You stalking me or something?" I walked up to him.
"No, I just thought that you would like some company. Also, did you enjoy your meal?" He was now trying to be a bit too nice, it was making me me laugh a bit.
"Honestly, I don't even know what's in the bag, I haven't looked." He got up and moved to the side so I could get into my locker. I placed everything into the locker then, opened the bag. Inside were 3 granola bars, a banana shake, and two tickets to see Halloween 2.
He looked at me and i looked at him. That was all my body would allow me to do.
