so here's the deal.
there's this freshman couple that kisses before 4th block when eric and i are walking from the cafeteria to physics class. we call them kiss me in the hallway before class or just kiss me before class for short.
seen them about 3 times so far - always the same thing. first class on the left, just a quick peck on the lips. it's such a freshman thing to do.
anyway so we're walking out of the global annex at about 2:30 from talking to ginzberg to find ward after talking to arteberry who talked to mull on radio with the new chem teacher (middlebrook's replacement) about a new tennis coach to fill in for colter. I can't remember her name. it started with a k.
we head out, realize we can't get to the library thru the construction, and cut back towards the bandroom. some sports team is warming up on the tennis courts to the left. kate's dad, looking for the rock of ages band, lets us into the bandroom. i pick up my lunchbox i left after midstate and we head for the lobby. (today's the first day back from an mlk day weekend.)
eric calls michael while i'm in the bathroom and michael decides to come say hi. turns out lucca, luke ansell, calvin, sammi, and james thompson (all also in chipotle at the time) decided to pay a visit as well. we talk for a while in the gravel student lot and i learn that ******* got a hickie from ** on the day of coming home (last friday) which i didn't expect at all. west parker pulls up in a black sedan with anthony in the passenger seat and eric and i decide to make our exit.
after saying goodbye to michael, we make the trek past the gym, around freebirds, and across the street to the library. we pop inside just to turn back around and head outside to chat. this is where it gets good.
we're walking up to the bronze statue at the park by the library and eric spots a couple making out on a bench across the field. it's the one closest to the abandoned house with the old volkswagen beetle. and when i say making out, i mean thigh-in-lap, passionate saliva exchange. this was no joke.
this gives us a bit of a laugh initially. it's not unheard of but definitely uncomfortable to spot this sort of thing. i make a crack with something like, "who picks the green hills library for a spot to get horny?" (horny was the 420th word, if you were wondering.)
deciding we can't casually stroll by this sort of thing, we go right around the sidewalk path instead of left. (still not sure if this couple's in high school or not.) we pick a bench facing the opposite direction; it's getting weird at this point. they show no signs of stopping and we can't stop chortling at these fools. i have a realization - what if it's kiss me in the hallway..
eric cracks up when i get my words out. just at that moment, two jogging middle-aged women in dri-fit appear, approaching us from the left on the sidewalk. turns out it's the two best math teachers at hillsboro, humphrey and wilkinson. this is obviously a great thing and eric and i jump up to greet them.
inevitably, eric points out the "event" transpiring on the other end of the field. the teachers are slightly amused and encourage reconnaissance. this is where it gets really good.
i'm already ahead and pick up my backpack to start walking around. humphrey and wilky continue on while eric and i get back on the track the same direction we were going. the problem of a topic of conversation as we pass the couple arises. i suggest fortnite, twice. eric declines enthusiastically.
we're already halfway from our territory to theirs and nothing has stuck. i look ridiculous with my two identical blue lunchboxes clipped to my backpack straps. approaching fast, i launch into a charade about *******'s hickie. eric catches on and we limp on about our surprise about the recent occurrence.
sure enough, predictably enough, it's them. i don't know their names but i recognize the boy's curly brown hair, horn-rimmed glasses, and freckles. (he looks a bit like zach sutton from hippo campus.) i didn't get a glimpse of the girl's face but i knew it by the hair and eric's face/voice when we pass them. bargain zach sutton pulls a way and stares into the distance for a moment as we pass.
i almost bust up laughing as soon as i recognize him. i don't look back and i don't attempt to contain a massive grin. eric and i reel for a few minutes as we stroll down an alternate path to the kids' section of sidewalk. eric tells me they're both in his pe class and have been known to disappear for chunks of time into the surrounding hallways. very suspicious.here's a graphic of eric and my chalk art in the kids' section. (i wrote 'kiss' and 'before' and eric wrote the rest.) eric's drawing of a bench can be spotted just below the cursive phrase.
that's pretty much the story. cracking up, we walk inside and run into eva by chance. the three of us plop down on a bench across from the kids section and by the rooms where people vote. i make a poor attempt at getting work done. eva leaves at around 3:35, eric at 3:56, and i stick around writing this garbage until mom arrives at 4:14.
maybe i'll update this someday with more info if it ever becomes relevant..
