chapter two
。。。
"good morning, minseo." one of her classmates greeted. she smiled and greeted him back, "good morning to you too, seokmin."
"did you know there's a new student in our class?" she shook her head. "really?" she asked. "yeah, i forgot what's his name though. but i'm pretty sure his name has the word old? new? or something." he replied. minseo nodded and thanked him for the information.
soon enough, the teacher entered the class with what looks like "the new student" beside her.
the teacher greeted the class with a quick good morning and introduced the person beside her. "we have a new student in class. soonyoung, go ahead." she said. "soonyoung" nodded and introduced himself.
"uhh, hello fellow homosapiens. i'm kwon soonyoung but my friends call me hoshi. i like eating and dancing. hope you all don't hate me." he said. a few people snickered at his choice of words while minseo cursed under ber breath. "why is he in this class too?" she muttered. while the person at the very back muttered, "he's perfect for minseo." to his friend.
"you can sit beside that short girl over there with glasses." the teacher said, pointing at minseo who's sitting near the window three rows from the front. soonyoung grinned when he realized he's gonna be sitting beside minseo for a while and made his way to her desk.
"we meet again." he said, while taking off his bag and sitting down on the chair beside her. before minseo could react, the teacher already silenced the class and so hell- i mean, studying begins.
"so?" soonyoung asked. minseo raised her eyebrow. "so, what?" she asked back. soonyoung shrugged his shoulders. "i don't know. just what's the deal with you?" he asked again. "none of your business." she replied.
"you know, this way you won't ever get a boyfriend. just saying." he stated. she rolled her eyes. "have i ever said that i was straight?" she said.
soonyoung took a moment to process what she said before widening his eyes. "w-what?! you're n-not straight? i mean- there's nothing wrong but like,, you're not straight?!" he exclaimed, panic written all over his face. though minseo doesn't know why.
"just kidding. got you." she joked. soonyoung breathed a sigh of relief. "thank god." he mumbled to himself, but minseo heard.
"so you're saying that if i was not straight, that'd be something negative?" minseo said with sarcasm dripping from her voice, but soonyoung doesn't seem to get her sense of humor yet.
he shook his head vigorously. "n-no! of course not! it's just that-" he said, leaving his words hanging. "just what?" she asked, smirking. he groaned. "minseo-ah, you're really something." she chuckled.
"you still wasted my ramen two days ago." she reminded, jokingly. "i'm sorry, okay?!" he replied. she chuckled again.
it was a fine sunny day. the sun is out, clouds are hiding, kids playing around on the park, and nothing but the sound of nature and laughter. it seems as though the world around her is full of happiness and joy. her classmates always cracking up jokes in class, the boy beside her annoying the heck out of her and muttering stupid yet funny remarks, people smiling and being excited for the school day to end. but, she couldn't fine the heart in her to feel the same as them.
what is happiness? she sometimes wonder. the last time she felt true happiness was a long time ago. even when her parents were still there, she rarely felt it. maybe when someone gave you a surprise on your birthday? when you're hanging out with your friends? she doesn't know.
she isn't that quiet emo kid either. she's what you could say a social butterfly. she knows everybody and everybody knows her. even with the struggles she's facing, she still managed to put on a smile on her face to tell people she's alright and "happy". well, not as happy as seokmin— he's basically the sun, the human vitamin that makes you feel warm and fuzzy when you see him. she's just minseo. the humble and kind (though rather sarcastic) person everyone knows.
but being that "happy" minseo has it's downs too. she finds herself struggling to open up to people about her problems, afraid what other people may think of her. she wants everyone around her to know her as that sarcastic and fun person to be around. not that sarcastic and fun but has no will to live person. she bottles up her emotions and faces her problems by herself. failing to realize that there are people around her who actually care.
like what she's doing right now, for example. sitting by herself on a bench at the park, quietly enjoying her ice cream while observing the people around her and rethinking her life choices.
seeing parents playing with their children tugged a string on her heart. she never really experienced that before. she feels jealous of them in a way. her parents were always away on a business trip, being a ceo and all. she's one of those rich and famous kids. being the daughter of a ceo and a worldwide-known model. her older brother dating a famous idol, and her younger brother being an internet superstar. she prefers to be humble and keeping it lowkey. so she's rarely in the spotlight unlike her family.
she feels lonely most of the times. she has friends— yes. but they aren't those friends who know everything about you and vice versa. and she rarely hangs out with them outside of school. since seeing them just reminds her of school, that reminds her of the stress she has to face almost everyday.
stress, her best friend. basically her only loyal friend. she fucking hates it so much but it always comes in the most inconvenient times. stress makes her think negative thoughts. feel negative things. and makes her want to do negative things too. at those times, she just wants someone to hear her out. but with her experiences of telling people her problems, she hesitates to do it again.
