Sometimes it's funny. Sometimes it's also scary. Victoria Tilphus never knew who her parents were. Her whole life she's lived with her grandmother and grandfather. She's been told that they died in a car crash, but she wasn't so sure. For some reason she doubted that. She sometimes has dreams of a woman with long brown hair, leaves in it and falling around her. She had these beautiful wings, but she wasn't sure who she was. She felt this sort of connection to her, though...
“I know, I know,” she said, letting out a drawn-out sigh as he grandma continued to warn her to be careful and not get into any trouble.
With a solemn look, the old woman said, “I just don't want you to get hurt... after what happened to your mother I can't help but worry about you.”
“Oh stop, you're just worrying her even more,” Grandpa stood up from his comfortable chair, walking over and placing a hand onto Victoria's shoulder. “Just be brave and go on. You're a strong girl so I'm sure you can handle yourself. But make sure you keep away from those cockatrices, okay?” He says with a half-serious half-joking look.
“Those don't exist, grandpa!” the young girl says, laughing and then flinging her bag over her shoulder. “But just so you don't worry, I'll make sure that I watch out for them. But I have to go now! Love you both and I'll send messages and letters,” She says, hugging the both of them quickly, receiving kisses from both of them before she waves and then walks out.
Please come soon... please come soon... Victoria has been waiting for this bus to get here for about thirty minutes now, and she's sure that she's going to be late to her first day of school. Way to make an impression! She was getting really impatient by then and was just about the get up and try to find her own way there before, from the distance, she saw... something. It wasn't exactly a bus, but it wasn't a car. As it got nearer, she finally saw what it was... a chariot?!
“Ah, good! It's always nice to see a new face!” The man riding it said in a friendly tone. All the girl could do was stare at his decision of a vehicle in awe and confusion. The ropes looked golden and were shimmering, the wheel had feathers behind them and it looked like it was almost made of a fine plastic, though she's sure he's not riding around in a plastic chariot. He even had a hat with feathers on the side on his head!
“Uh, you... I don't think this is my ride,” She says, starting to back away.
He just gave her a silly look, “Not your ride? Of course it is, you obviously got the letter to this school. Or else why would you be standing here?” He says rhetorically, ushering her forward with his hands. “Victoria Tilphus, is it? This is your chariot. Now come, we are already running late as it is and I can't afford for the headmaster to be angry at me!”
With a hesitant glance from side to side, she stepped into the chariot, closing the side door after herself and placing her bag onto her lap, jerking back when he suddenly starts it up. She then realized that chariots are usually driven by horses, but it seemed that he was just riding it himself... how is that possible? And why did it look like they were getting... higher?! “H-hey, what the hell?” She asks, starting to freak out as she could only watch their chariot lift high into the sky, leaving the Earth.
The rider just laughed, continuing to ride high up into the skies with a girl about to have a heart attack in the back seat.
Victoria's fingers were dug into the side of the chariot, her eyes closed tightly in pure fear. Why and how in the world had they done that?! How is that possible?! She held her breath and was still freaking out, not realizing yet that they had already arrived.
“Go ahead and open your eyes now!”
Slowly, her brown eyes were opened and she saw... well, something from a fairy tale. The academy was large and extravagant, a sunny light shone down onto the building, making it glimmer in a rich, almost unreal looking way. Around the building, there's a huge field. She saw a large group of mainly men attacking dummies with swords, some seeming to innocently duel each other. A bit near then but away from the action, there was a group of people with cloaks over their heads, talking and chatting with each other in a lively way. Then one of them suddenly caught on fire, flailing his arms around as the others laugh at him.
“W-where am I?” She stuttered, looking at the rider with wide eyes as she stepped out of the chariot.
“Your school! Augustus Supernatural Academy,” He says, a big smile on his face.
“Supernatural Academy? You mean like... ghosts or something?” She asks, looking around. Now she wasn't sure what to believe.
“Well, not exactly. I mean, we have them, but they're not ghosts like you've been told your whole life. They're more like banshees.” He then gave her a nervous look, “Eh... you'll understand when you get your classes. Speaking of classes, you will need this,” He then handed her a paper, bordered in elegant lining. On it, it read:
IF YOU HAVE RECIEVED THIS LETTER, THIS MEANS THAT YOU HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED TO AUGUSTUS SUPERNATURAL ACADEMY. YOU ARE ONE OF THE FEW VERY LUCKY BEINGS, WHETHER YOU ARE A MAGUS, CLERIC, OR EVEN A NYMPH. UNDER IS YOUR SPECIFIC SCHEDULE MADE JUST FOR YOU.
House: The Day House
Period 1: History of Yairtys
Period 2: Creatures, Land, and Mythology
Period 3: Environmental Aid
Period 4: Physical Training
Period 5: Lunch
Period 6: Dark Magic
Victoria could only stare at the paper with confusion. What is all of this?! She's always had lunch, physical 'education', and history. But not history of Yair-whatever it's called. “Uh, what is... Yair..tyhs?” She asks her chariot driver.
“Oh, it's pronounced yair-tees,” He says, walking next to her and staring at the paper in her hands. “Hm... That's weird. Usually you wouldn't get Environmental Aid and Dark Magic. That class is for Necromancers, Charmers, and Enticers. You certainly don't look like any of those,” He says, looking her up and down.
She blushed and gave him a strange look, “Necromancers, Charmers, and Enticers?” Right about now, she decided that she's ready to believe anything.
He nods, “What are you? You look like a Cleric or maybe a pixie or something.” He says, smiling at her and placing his hands onto his hips.
Victoria stared up at him, not sure how to respond. “I'm a... human.”
“Oh, please, don't joke around, if you were human then you wouldn't even be able to have gotten inside of this place,” He laughs, “C'mon, what are you?”
“No, I'm really a human! I have been my whole life- this is all new to me! I don't know what's going on, but that's why I said you have the wrong person!” She says, giving him a slightly worried look.
“...That can't be...” He then took a quick look around, now looking sort of hurried and panicked . “I need to get you to the headmaster now. Don't even take a look around just keep your head down and...” He reached into the chariot, picking up a hat from it and shoving it onto her head. “Don't let anyone see you.” He then took her hand tightly in his, walking away and up a long stone path.
She followed his directions, staring at the ground as she was dragged then into the very large, pristine building. Why did he suddenly go from young and happy to a bit fearful? She was so curious to look around, but she knew that she couldn't...
