Rat

As Chris approached, the rat became more and more nervous. It hissed and spat. It couldn't run. There were two people-one too many to attack. Its tail rose.

"Hurry up! You are close enough!" said the human by the door. (This was, of course, complete gobbledegook to the rat)

Thwap!

Crack!

The rat didn't hear the last sound-probably because it was the accompanying impact, cracking his skull, which killed him.

"Dead as a doorknob!"

"Might just be out cold." Muttered Jacob, ever pessimistic.

"Give me that crowbar!"

Chris slowly poked the body, and then danced away, as if the corpse might reanimate and bite him.

"Eww! I just poked something dead!"

"A more insane child I have never known!"

"Is it-dead?" The boys turned, to see the girls staring at the body.

"Yes. Dead, deceased, done for, expired, passed away, perished..." Chris glanced at the body "And going into rapid rigour mortis!"

She looked at Jacob, quite shocked by the Chris lack of empathy.

"Lily, by the way." "Jacob." And then, with a faint half-smile on her face, she fainted again.

"Maybe we should take her to the doctor."

"Yeah. I'll carry her."
