"Mom?"
I try shaking her shoulders again; she still won't budge.
"Mom please wake up." I whine, checking her pulse for her heart rate.
Her heart is beating just fine.
I run back to my little brother's room, hoping he climbed out of bed. He's still laying in the same position, completely unobservant from the world.
I run down the hardwood stairs, hurrying to pull my coat off the coatrack and slip on my slippers. I slip out into the cold, 45°F weather and scurry to my neighbor's house to get help.
I knock on the door a few times relentlessly out of breath.
No answer.
I try again, kicking with my foot as hard as I can.
Still no answer.
I return back home, throwing my coat and tennis shoes on the ground as I slam the door.
I calmly collect myself as I return back to my room and open my laptop.
What if other people are awake somewhere?
I decide to open facebook, hoping I wasn't the only one.
There was a public post that caught my eye immediately.
"Anyone else awake?"
There's only 3 comments.
My heart skips a beat as Facebook refreshed its page to load them.
"Thank god I'm not the only one." Read one.
"What the fuck is going on?" Read another.
"Is this some kind of experiment?" Read the last one.
That's when I really began freaking out.
There were so many things I didn't believe were possible; who knew the impossible would find a way to us.
But really, what the fuck IS going on?
I commented, "I'm here too..."
Almost instantly, I got a reply.
"Where are you from?"
From Lila Cuznick.
I responded, "I live in Port Austin, Michigan. Where are you?"
She quickly responded, "I live in Cleveland, Ohio."
Another guy replied, "I live in Dallas, Texas."
A different guy replied, "I'm from New York City, New York."
Many thoughts began to run through my mind. Why is this happening? This must be for some type of experiment. But what?
Shortly after, there was a knock on my door. I jumped right out of my seat, falling to the floor with a loud thump.
I quickly ran down the stairs, hoping it was somebody I knew.
The knock echoed through the walls once again.
I approached the door, wondering if I should open it or not.
I decide to open the door.
"Hello?" I call as I'm left with nothing but an empty porch and dead silence in the town.
Suddenly everything goes black, as I collapse to the ground, a heavy voice echoing in the distance,
"This is the last one."
