What Happens Now?

The day before.

   Like any other day I wake up to my dog licking my face, to anyone else this would get old and annoying but to me nothing could make me happier then seeing my 20 pound blue heeler rattier mix baby being so happy. Like me Reba is a victim of abandonment, I found her on the side of the road in the middle of winter. Now she sleeps with me warm in my bed and loved.
How am I abandoned you ask? Well my dad didn't want me and my loving mother died when I was 9, so now I live with my grandparents.

  Life was hard after my mom left but thanks to my grandparents and my best friend, Cora, things got better.
High school flew by, thank God, and I'm due to start college soon. Until then me and Cora stay around our little town of Dixie, Mississippi and savor it before we have to leave.

"Cora, your out of Cheerios again!" I yell to here from the kitchen, which is the first place I go to when I come over.

"That's probably because you ate them all yesterday!" She says as she walks out of her room tying her long blond hair back.

"Why must you always wear your hair up. It's so beautiful. I'd kill for hair like yours" I say in a pout thinking about my shoulder length black hair. I miss how long it used to be I wish I never would have chopped it off.

"Whatever, your the one who chose to cut all your hair off because it got hot one day!" Cora states while rolling her eyes, but she's right this summer has been HOT!

"What are we doing today?" I asked her while I pored a bowl of rice crisp's, even tho I really wanted Cheerios.

"Well the school is having its annual clean out wanna go help, we could go see coach!" She says.

"Yea sounds fun. However I came her on my baby and I know how much you hate my baby." I say with a frown.
My baby is my bike, mat black crotch rocket! I got her for my birthday!

Cora huffs "Fine just this once, please don't kill me!"

"Haha I promise I won't do anything too crazy" I say while winking at her. She rolls her eyes and grabs her shoes while I put my bowl in the sink and we head out.

"You could have killed us back there!!!" Cora cried as she jumped off my baby and dramatically fake kissed the ground.

"Oh your such a wuss we were only going 80" I say shrugging her off.

"Yea! Around the sharpest curve in Dixie!! She yells. And she's right it is the sharpest curve in Dixie.

"Yea yea, come on let's go" I say walking towards the school and smiling at my old teachers.

As we walk thru the halls I'm filled with mixed emotions. This school holds so many memories, good and bad. I remember being bullied in this very hallway.

Flash back  3rd grade
"Eww it's Sam. What a looser!" Blake says while pointing his finger.

"Doesn't she own a mirror?" Followed Emily

They all laughed at me but little did they know that my hair was a mess because I had spent the whole night helping my mom up and down To got to the bathroom, because the cemo made her sick. But I didn't mind I loved my mom she was the best part of my life.

But thankfully the bully's never got to far because even tho we weren't friends because he was popular and I wasn't, a kid named Mike would always stop them, he really hated bully's.

" cut it out, y'all are getting on my nerves" mike snapped and they all listened. 
End of flash back

"SAM!" Cora yelled pulling me out of my thoughts.

"W-what?" I snapped

"We should go see coach. I bet he will let us shoot the bows!" She said with excitement.

When Cora and I went here we were on the archery team, I miss it. The feeling you get when the arrow releases, like all the stress leaves with it.

"Let's go" I say smiling at her as she jumps up and down like a kid and I can't help but laugh. " your such a child"

"Yea but you love me!"

*knock knock*
"Coach?" I say while slowly opening his class room door.

"Come in." I hear him say so we do.

"Wow you look old" I say in an innocent voice joking around with him as we always do.

"You don't look any better" he says in a childish way making all of us laugh. "Hey girls what brings you down?" He asks while giving us both a big bear hug. It's not weird he's, like a father.

"Well it's clean out day and we wanted to help." Cora says as she leans on her tippy toes like a five year old asking for a cookie "and, we wanted to shoot the bows!" She squeal out in excitement

"I see" coach says through a laugh. "Tell you what, you two help me move some stuff and I'll give you the key and y'all can come shoot bows tomorrow, all the faculty will be at the college tomorrow for a meeting." He says giving me the key to the gym.
"But don't tell anybody"

   Cora takes her hand and zips her mouth shut and throws away her imaginary key and we all just laugh.

After hours of moving and coach pop quizzing us on his old survival test we are all done. The class he taught was supposed to be just science but he turned it into survival science  so now Cora and I  have survival training that we are never gonna use. But still it comes in handy.

Later that night after I dropped Cora off I go home to my grandparents.

"Honey I'm home!" I shout as I enter the trailer.

" hey good lookin!" My grandmother shouts. Followed by my grandfather "whatcha got cooking" and we all laugh not just at the fact that he's the one cooking but because we do this every night and it never gets old.

" how was work?" I ask both of them and they give me the same answer "fine."

"Goodnight, love y'all!" I called out from my room as I shut the door hearing them yell it back before laying down with reba.
