What Happens Now?

All alone

The next morning as always reba wakes me up. And I hear Cora groan in her sleep. I softly roll of the bed and go see what I can bring her to eat, I decide on cereal. But first I grab her some pain meds and water.

"Cora honey wake up." I say as a softly shake her shoulder.

"Ouch" is all she says.

"I know, here take this" I say handing her the water and pain killers. Once she's done I go and get her cereal.
I observe that we don't have Much food so i decide I'll go for a run maybe I'll find some help.

After we eat I kiss Cora on the forehead and tell her I'll be back and that she needs to rest. I then look at reba and tell her to watch Cora. She jumps on the bed and lays down next to Cora and I leave. Deciding to take the truck so I can haul more back. As I'm driving I think of my grandparents and Cora's parents and pray they are ok.

After about 5 times of turning around and having to go another way I finally make it back to my house and quickly go inside to get my survival bag that's been packed sense the 7th grade. G and I thought I'd never need it. I thought to myself. Then quickly I grabbed as much food as I could that didn't need to be kept cold. After that I opted to hit up the location dollar general. Again after having to turn around a lot, thank god for all the back roads, I finally made it. So far I haven't seen anyone. It's as if they all vanished. The store was empty people wise and some shelves were knocked down. I grab a buggy and start filling it with all the none perishables I can find. Then quickly I make my way to the medical row and grab anything and everything I can use for Cora. On my way out I notice a ball cap. Blue and slightly pre ripped.

Flash back 5th grade

"Watch where your going idiot" Blake says as he brushes by me knocking me down.

"Such a loser. Stay on the ground where you belong." Emily says kicking my back pack. Them two where always together one day they're gonna get married I swear. Rolling my eyes I flinch when I feel arms pick me up.

"Are you ok. I'm sorry about my friends." I hear a familiar voice. Turning around I'm met by two beautiful ice blue eyes.

"I don't know how you call those friends, but yes I'm fine thank you." I say as he lets me go and I pick up my things. As I'm walking away I hear him call my name, that I didn't know he knew.

"Sam! Wait, your hat!" He called out. I turned around and he walked to me. Smiling and placing the hat on my head.

"Thank you, Mike" I said and smiled as I turned around and rushed to carline.

End of flash back.

Standing there thinking I realize I'd been standing there for a long time, I shake my head and walk out the store and load everything in the truck.

Arriving back at Cora's I unload everything and head to her room. To find her reading her book. "Hey, how are you feeling?" I ask.

"My leg hurts but I'm fine." She says in a half smile.

"Good. Well I went to my house grabbed food then I went to the store and shop lifted for the first time." I said laughing. But she only looked confused.

"Why? What do you mean?" She asked

" well there's no one around I haven't seen the first person. I guess there hiding out like we are. But the store was empty and we needed food and medicine." I explained.

"Is everyone dead?" She asked

"I don't know. I'm sure there not. They are probably just at home."
I told her, scared like she was.

Later that night we played a card game to pass the time. I had already changed her wound and to our luck it's beginning to heal she should be back up and going by next week.. I hope.

"Hey Cora, do you remember Mike?" I asked her as we lay down staring at the ceiling.

" Wasn't he that popular kid that always took up for you?" She says in a small laugh.

"Yea." I said in a sigh

" what about him? What even happened to him? I haven't seen him sense the end of freshman year."

"I don't know but I saw a hat like the one I used to wear and I thought of him." I said fiddling with my hands.
He was so nice to me unlike his friends. I hope where ever he is he's ok.

"You always did have a crush on him." Cora says laughing

"Yea yea! Go to sleep!" I say hitting her arm. And rolling over.

She was right though, I did have a crush. He was just so nice and he didn't half to be. I mean he was on the football team and everything total popularity so why was he so nice to me, a band nerd? I thought about it for awhile before falling asleep. Wondering what tomorrow would bring.
