Chapter 9
Ian should know by now that I hate surprises and I should know by now to never agree to anything that involved blindfolds. Clearly we both haven’t learned yet.
“You better not be taking me out to the middle of nowhere so no one can hear me scream when you murder me.” I laughed, my vision still currently engulfed in darkness. I felt the truck rumble under me, driving on a very unpaved road.
“That wouldn’t be a very happy birthday present, now would it?” He chuckled back.
“Probably wouldn’t. It’s my eighteenth after all. Pretty big milestone.”
“You can finally vote and buy lottery.”
“Hell yeah.” We both fell into laugher. “So where are we going Mr. Secretive? I promise I won’t tell anyone.”
“Tempting, but they don’t call me Mr. Secretive for no reason.”
“If this stupid cloth wasn’t covering my eyes, you wouldn’t be able to resist my puppy dog look.”
“That’s why I had to cover up those big beautiful brown eyes.” I couldn’t help but smile as I leaned back against the passenger seat.
“Finally you’ve stopped yapping.” He smirked from behind the wheel. I attempted to punch him and was satisfied when I connected with his shoulder.
“How can you have better aim when you can’t see than when you can?” Ian teased.
“I’m awesome like that.” I responded as the truck gradually rolled to the stop.
“Don’t you dare take that blindfold off.” He warned me as I heard the driver’s door opened then shut. For his sake, I didn’t defy him, which surprised him when he made his way to the passenger side.
“Wow, since when did you decide to listen to directions?”
“Shut up.” I replied as my feet hit dirt. Clearly, he didn’t remind me to wear proper shoes as a few rocks slipped into my flip-flops.
“Thanks for the footwear memo.” I laughed as he continued to lead me to who knows where. His hands left mine as I heard him shuffling a distance away. “Are you looking for your murder weapon?” I teased.
“You have too many homicidal thoughts.” He said with a ‘what am I going to do with you’ tone to his voice.
“Bored blindfolded person over here!” I shouted raising one of my hands up as a minute passed.
“You’re one impatient girl.”
“You’re just now figuring that out?” I said with a grin. “Can I guess where we are then since I have a feeling it’s going to take you some time for you to set up whatever your setting up?”
“You’re lucky I’m a good multitasker.” I could sense he was smiling even from where I was standing.
“Okay, have I been here before?”
“Yep. Nine more questions to go.”
“I think the game’s called twenty questions hun.”
“This is the speed round hun.” He emphasized on the last word with a chuckle.
“Rule bender.”
“Smart aleck.”
“Are you sticking your tongue out at me?”
“Are you peeking?” I could feel his eyes on me.
“Nope. I just know you too well.” I stuck my tongue back at him.
