ANA’S POV
I struggled in ZALGO’s grip, trying desperately to squirm my way out of this while I still had my dignity intact. The black-skinned demon was not pleased by this, for he growled angrily and roughly pressed my face into the ground. As soon as his hand left the back of my head, I snapped it back around and continued my hopeless fight.
I was just ready to give up and go through this with the knowledge that I would not suffer long. A deep, angry voice that did not belong to ZALGO’s interrupted. The clawed hands that were raking deep gashes into me let go, and I scrambled away at the opportunity. ZALGO turned, no doubt to kill me in fury, but he was stopped by Trinvilla.
Shaky, fearful, phobic Trinvilla ran to me and shielded me from the black demon with the glowing red mouths. ZALGO grinned at the aspect of fresh prey.
“Awww,” he growled in his demonic voice. “I’m sorry, dear. But trusting the demon with the pulsing aura of evil to not kill you probably wasn’t your best decision.”
Trinvilla only shivered once, which shocked me. Usually, if a human threatened her, she would run away screaming for either Andrew or me. Now, she was standing up to the most powerful demon there was and only shivered once.
“She’s not in this,” the deep voice not belonging to ZALGO spoke again. I looked up and nearly choked. ZALGO, on the other hand, looked ready to explode and destroy all of Earth along with him.
It was another demon, surprisingly the same height as ZALGO, maybe a bit taller. He had shiny black hair, but that was it. No other part of his body, which was covered only by a loincloth, held a single hair. Then, I noticed his lion-like tail and legs. Slight fur covered them, and the only other human hair was found in the tuft at the end of the tail.
He was breathtakingly beautiful, despite the anger glowing in his red eyes. I took the advantage of the distraction, though, to rapidly pull on my undergarments. Trin decided to help me put my black long-sleeve on as I pulled my jeans back on. We stood up together and watched the hatred between the two demons: one with black skin and without any regality, one with tanned skin and a whole manner of aristocracy.
“Who’s your friend?” I asked shakily.
“Lucifer,” Trin whispered back. “He seems to want you safe.”
I whipped my head around at the mention of Lucifer and stared wide-eyed at Trin. She did not notice; her freckled features were on the confrontation before us. “Trin,” I gasped. “You’re Christian!”
“And you’re Buddhist. That doesn’t mean we can’t get help from him,” Trin argued, and I knew instantly that I would lose. This was the girl that, in Debate Club, always brought up points that no one could argue.
Lucifer looked pissed, but he was controlling it. If anything, I found that self-restraint even more dangerous. I could not tell exactly how angry the King of Hell was due to his capacity to hide it. ZALGO, conversely, was openly spitting in hatred.
“You forget that I still rule everything dead and undead,” Lucifer reminded, his tail twitching. “You are still within my power.”
ZALGO let out a laugh. “I wasn’t in your power from the moment you cast me out of pesky servitude. I’ve grown, Lucifer. I am just as powerful as you, and since you let your guard down, I’ll be more powerful by the end of this night.”
Lucifer did not seem peeved by the entire little speech ZALGO had created. He only twitched his tail again, and sharpened his nails. Trin and I were steadily inching back, slowly and in long expansions of time. Lucifer noticed, for one of his wolf-like ears followed us to keep an ear on us.
