The Mysterious 14th Division

I never knew my past, nor where I came from. When I first opened my eyes I saw myself in a poor environment that hardly anyone could live in. I was about fifteen... or at least I thought. I stole to keep myself alive. Even then I fought with anyone who caught me; however I soon discovered something by my side, something dark. I wasn't sure what it was, but I knew it was there. A year later, I discovered that the darkness could be grown into my hands enabling me to steal more. However, one day I was caught again, but by no ordinary man.

As I looked at this man I saw blue rose petals surrounding him as the wind blew past. "What are you doing?" he asked, as I just looked at him. "Surviving" I said, as he narrowed his eyes and touched my forehead. "Really? Are you sure? Your partner says different" he said, as he let me go and started walking away, but then he paused and turned his head looking at me. "Once you reach a higher level you will be in my squad" he said, as I looked at him a bit confused. I had no idea what he was talking about, but one thing was for sure, he was mysterious.

Two years later I found myself training in the soul society, I was founded by the first division captain himself saying I had great potential as a soul reaper. Then that's when I met my partner Kokuei, a dark dragon. He's really not a people person, but I do appreciate his help in developing my strength. Me? The family I was staying with called me Rei... as for my last name? I don't know, nor do I remember.

When the time came to be assigned into squads; I was waiting seeing that everyone I knew was assigned into the most amazing divisions. "Rei" said a voice, as I turned my head seeing the first division captain Genryuusai looking at me. "I have seen your skills and I am assigning you to our top Division number 14" he said, as I stopped. "14? I thought there were only 13 divisions" I said, as he smirked. "We have an emergency division for specific reasons and I want you to be in this division under the care of Captain Katsu Endo" he said, as I looked at him. "Understood" I said, as he led me to the division of the 14th squad, and it was quite small for a whole division. Once he opened the door my eyes widened seeing the captain that caught me from before.

"Katsu this is Rei, she will be your 2nd lieutenant" said Captain Genryuusai, as Katsu looked at me, and I looked at him seriously. "Reporting for duty Captain Endo" I said saluting. He smirked sitting in his chair and folding his fingers together. "Welcome Rei, I will introduce you to your lieutenant and he will show you around" he said, as I nodded. "Yes sir" I said, as he smirked closing his eyes. "Well I'll leave Rei in your hands now Katsu" said Captain Genryuusai, as he walked out. "Isuki" said Captain Endo, as a door to his right opened and I saw a man with blonde and black hair smiling towards him.

"You called Captain" he said bowing his head. "This is Rei, our new 2nd lieutenant, please show her around the soul society" he said standing up. "And you captain?" he asked, as Captain Endo looked at him smirking... I think he was, wearing his scarf I couldn't tell. "I have a meeting to get to" he said. As he left the lieutenant looked at me "I am your superior Lieutenant Isuki Yuu, please follow me" he said, as I nodded. I started looking around and he smiled. "First, you might want to meet the rest of your squad" he said, as I looked at him. "Why is there so little?" I asked, as he smirked. "Division 14 has only soul reapers who have a Bankai and can summon it" he said, as I stopped and looked at him. I hadn't been able to summon my Bankai yet, so why was it that they wanted me in the 14th division? I walked around and the first soul reaper I met was. Nao Mori.

"This is our 3rd Lieutenant" said Isuki, as I bowed my head, he narrowed his eyes and stayed quiet. "Don't worry the only one he talks to is Captain Endo" he whispered, as I nodded. "I'll introduce you to the others later, right now I'll show you around the Society" he said, as I nodded walking around watching everyone walking by and training. I then paused as one of the captains' walked by me and I blushed. He had amazing black hair and the number 6. "Rei" said Isuki, as I jumped and followed him. "Sorry" I said, as he smiled. "Don't be, Captain Kuchiki is very popular" he said, as I nodded. As the Lieutenant showed me around I didn't quite understand each of the division's purposes but I wasn't complaining either. When we stopped we ended up back at the 14 division. "And that's that" he said, as I nodded. "Lieutenant Sir, could I ask you something?" I asked, as he smiled. "Maybe tomorrow, I'm off duty right now, I'll see you tomorrow" he said walking off. I sighed and walked into the captain's office seeing him writing down on papers. "Sir" I said, as he raised his head and looked at me. "Ah Rei how did it go? Have you met Nao yet?" he asked, as I nodded. "Yes sir, but I'm a bit concerned about myself" I said, as he looked at me. "I know very well that you cannot summon your Bankai state yet Rei, however Captain Genryuusai and myself still both agree that you being my 2nd lieutenant is the best idea" he said, as I nodded. "Yes sir, understood" I said, as he smirked. "You can have the rest of the day off if you want" he said, as I paused. "Actually, I would like to work. It is my first day and I want to get a head start" I said, as he smirked and handed me some reports. "Get these done and I'll look them over tomorrow" he said, as I saluted. "Yes sir" I said, as he smirked... I think.

After finishing my reports I slept in my office. Hey where else was I supposed to stay I had nowhere to live remember. I jumped hearing a knock at my door. "Come in" I said, as I saw two soul reaper's walk into my office. (Arata Hushiko and Eiji Loliko) "6th and 7th Lieutenant reporting for duty 2nd Lieutenant Rei" they said saluting. "Duty?" I questioned, as they looked at each other. "Captain Endo said you had his reports, they go to us" they said, as I picked up the papers laid out on my desk and handed it to them. "Sorry about that" I said nervously, as they nodded. I got up stretching my arms. "Long night?" asked a voice, as I turned my head seeing two more soul reapers looking at me. (Toshio Kiku and Yasuo Triko) "Hi I'm Toshio the 4th Lieutenant and this is Yasuo the 5th Lieutenant" he said, as I smiled. "I'm Rei your new 2nd Lieutenant please to meet you" I said, as they smirked. "We kind of guessed that already" he said, as I smiled nervously. "Right, is there something I can help you with then?" I asked, as they sighed. "Lieutenant Isuki didn't tell you did he?" asked Toshio, as I looked at him. "Tell me what?" I asked, as they looked at each other. "Our mission is to patrol the outskirts today" said Toshio, as I nodded taking my sword. We walked to the outskirts and walked around. It was kind of boring, but I really didn't think anything of it. When our shift was over I started walking back, and then I paused seeing Renji. He was one of my first friends that I met in the training institution. "Hey Renji" I said, as he looked at me. "Oh Rei" he said, as I smiled. "How's it going? I heard you were in the 11th division" I said, as he looked at me and then turned his head. "I was" he said, as I tilted my head to the side. "What's wrong?" I asked, as he sighed and looked at me. "Look I can't talk to I'm a Lieutenant now of the 6th division, I'm a higher class than you" he said, as I watched him walk away. "Want me to kill him?" said a voice, as I sighed. "No Kokuei, I'm fine" I said walking and made my way to the captain's office. I knocked on the door "Come in" said a voice, as I walked in seeing the captain writing on paper. "Ah Rei, how was patrolling the outskirts?" he asked, as I looked at him. "No problem Captain, I can have the reports finished before you leave" I said, as he looked at me. "Rei, it's only your second day don't strain yourself" said the captain, as I smiled. "It's alright really I don't mind" I said, as he smiled.

Finally the days, turned into weeks and the weeks turned into months, however I noticed that I was alone, most of the time. More so than usual. Not only were my school friends avoiding me and doing their own thing in their division; but I noticed that my colleagues were keeping their distance from me. Why? I did not know.  I work day after day, and then something happened... an alarm went off throughout the soul society.
