Chapter One | This is Us

Marinette hadn't known anything about a surprise party for her. She was definitely surprised.

Today was her fifteenth birthday. Alya, Nino, Adrien, and Chloe all prepared something for her. A surprise party, to be exact.

Wait. Why is Chloe Bourgeois here, you ask?

Ever since they were toddlers, Adrien and Chloe had been good friends. Their parents, especially Adrien's father and Chloe's mother, were friends as well.

When Adrien's first day at a public school came, Chloe was ecstatic. She spotted him at recess, where she practically threw herself at him.

"Adrikins!" Chloe wrapped her arms around Adrien. "You're finally here! Let me show you--wait. Who are they, Adrien?"

Adrien smiles. "These are my new friends, Chloe. Guys, this is Chloe, my good friend"

The trio greeted her in unison. Chloe just waved and smiles falsely.

"Chloe, meet Marinette, Nino, and Alya." He pointed at each one by name. "I hope you guys would get along, well."

Chloe felt quite...offended.

She was Adrien's only friend. But then, he decided to add some people into their special friendship. It was only between them. There wasn't supposed to be secondary characters in their story.

"Hello, Chloe!"

A cheery voice broke her out of her train of thoughts. Marinette was smiling widely at the blonde girl, offering a hand to shake.

Fake smiling, Chloe hesitantly took it.

"I'm Marinette." The bluenette said. "It's really nice to meet you!"

"Y-You too." Chloe said, sickeningly sweet.

Ever since that day, Chloe was a part of their little group of friends. She would occasionally join their company when she was available.

The real reason why Chloe was friends with them was because they were Adrien's friends.

And whoever Adrien had been close to, she complied to be close to them. But the three were only her friends by name.

Alya, Adrien, and Chloe were at the park. They were decorating the place for the surprise. With the help of a few more peeps, of course.

Alya was making sure that everything goes smoothly. "A little to the left, Kim--no. My left, Kim, in your right"

Nathaneal Kurtzberg and Kim Le Chien were in Marinette's class. They were setting up a painted banner that says: Happy 15th Birthday Marinette! with little crepe paper roses on the edges.

Kim follows Alya's direction. "Like this?"

"Perfect!" Alya gave him a thumbs up. "Tie it up. We need more streamers and balloons to scatter."

Adrien and Chloe were inflating the balloons with the help of a helium tank that Adrien requested from his father.

Actually, most of the fund for the party came from Adrien.

"Hopefully, this will make up for everything, Chloe. Marinette really wanted me to go to her birthday party ever since elementary." Adrien said. He inflated a pink, white-spotted balloon.
