I woke up to my twin brother, Konnor, shaking my shoulder to rouse me. "Kianna, get up. It's our day to milk the cows and collect the eggs from the chickens. We might also want to help with the early harvest, bring it in. I'm sure there are plenty of things to do today. Get dressed so we can start, my twin sister." I sat groggily up and nodded at him. "Could you get me something to wear Konnor?" He nodded and rifled through our clothes. He tossed me a dark blue tunic and a pair of long pants, simple brown fabric. I ran my fingers through my dark hair, then tied it up with a white ribbon, making sure it would hold my long black hair for the whole day. I stepped into the kitchen, and my cousin Mason ran up to me. He held a letter, and he extended it towards me. "This is for you." "Thank you Mason." I accepted it, and he smiled proudly, then took off. I studied the letter, and I saw that my name was written on the front in neat, flowing writing. There wasn't time to read it now, for there were the morning chores. I slipped back into the room Konnor and I shared, setting the letter on my pillow. I walked briskly outside and found my brother in the barn, already starting the morning chores. The two of us had to do just as many chores as the others, but we often split the work to make it go twice as fast. The advantages of having a twin were many.  "I'll go get the eggs then come help you in here, alright Konnor?" I asked him. He looked up and nodded briefly before returning to his work. I took the basket that hung on a nail near the door, then went to the chicken pen. My little sister, Vera, was already there. "Kianna, look at the baby chicks!" Vera said, holding up a pure white one gently to me. I set the basket down, then took it from her. "They finally hatched?" she nodded enthusiastically. "Are you ready to take care of them all?" "I hope so." Father had told her that since we couldn't afford a dog like she wanted, she could raise a dozen hens from chicks. If she was able to do so, then she would get a baby pig, and after that a colt. Animals that were necessary for the farm were, unfortunately, all she would be able to raise.  I returned the chick to her, then gathered the eggs. I talked gently to the hens as I went, careful not to startle any of them. I kept a keen eye peeled for eggs, while there were some easily found, others were not. Once I was sure I had all of them, I walked to the main cabin, into the kitchen. My aunt Traci heard me come in and called to me. "Kianna , are those the fresh eggs?" "Yes they are." I said back to her. I took the basket over to her, turning and smoothly slipping a few sweet blackberries from another basket. "Kianna!" my aunt scolded me gently, I smiled and popped one into my mouth. She shook her head and gave me a few more, saying, "Take these to your twin you silly girl. Off with you!" I accepted the berries, then slipped out the back door. I ran to the barn, and found that Konnor was nearly done with his chore, milking the cows. I went to him and offered him a few berries, tossing one of mine into the air, catching it deftly in my mouth. He accepted his and ate them all at once. "At least savor them Konnor." I said, setting my last one on my tongue. He shook his head, swallowing the berries. "When I eat them all at once, I get more flavor." I smiled at him, and he finished. There were about six or seven buckets, all full of creamy milk. "Let's go get these to the kitchens, and see if we can get a few more of those blackberries." Konnor said. I nodded and smiled. We each took two, one in each hand, and went on our way. We did indeed get more berries, and then at breakfast we each kept a handful to eat later on in the day. After breakfast, we rode our horses around, helping haul some of the early harvest, doing what we could to help the running of the family farm. That evening, my father came home from his trading, promising tales and gifts to Konnor, Vera, and I. Little did I know how much those gifts would change my life.

A/N: Hey guys! Welcome to my first story! This is an idea that I've been wanting to test out for years but I've never really done anything to make an actual story of it, so here's my first attempt. This is my first story ever, so I do welcome comments and feedback, I just ask that you don't be rude, it's hard to want to write when there are people who aren't very nice. Anyway, I'm going to try and update as much as I can, I don't know how often that will be with school and friends and everything, but I promise I'll update at least once a week. Let me say thank you so much for reading this, it means the world to me. Love you all! -DaughterofHeroes
