how to reunite.

"Listen, Devon! I'm not going to some shitty high school reunion and neither are you."

Devon glared at her boyfriend, an eyebrow raised in anger. "Sorry, Ethan, can you repeat that to me?"

"I said," Ethan spoke through gritted teeth, enunciating every vowel. "You're not going."

Picking up her handbag and slipping on her heels, Devon spoke up.

"Funny, because I swear I'm dressed to go. I have Jay and Alec waiting in their car. So, no- I think I am going."

She rummaged through her bag to pick up her phone, typing quickly before turning it off. She hated Ethan. But, Devon hated a lot of people. She found herself becoming more and more prone to hatred every day. Add in a tequila shot or two, and that hatred grew.

Devon saw the annoyance in Ethan's green eyes. The envy, ironically. She laughed in her head before he grabbed her arm tightly, causing pain to shoot through her bones like a bullet.

"I don't want you going out with those faggots," he spat, before smiling cruelly. "Wouldn't want their influence rubbing off on you, would we Dev?"

A sharp, loud sound; similar to a firecracker exploding or the crack of a whip; rang through the air. Devon's palm stung like a fury of pins and needles had attacked it. Though it seemed that Devon was the one doing the attacking.

"Say shit about my friends ever again, and I will cut off that 2 inches of yours."

She used Ethan's shock to her advantage, running down the stairs and slamming the front door behind her. Breathing in the fresh, numbing night air, Devon walked over to the black BMW where Jay and Alec were sat, talking. She got in the back and sighed, putting her bag down beside her.

"We heard yelling. Trouble in paradise?" Jay asked, meeting her steady glance through the rearview mirror.

"No," she replied. "Trouble in Dante's seven rings of Hell."

Alec shrugged. "Fair enough"

And with that they drove off.

The school looked like it always had. Brick walls, rusty lockers. Polished floors that were home to many bullied nerds. Like any high school. The parking lot was filled with cars. It was fun to wonder who owned the used subcompact and who owned the Lamborghini, Devon thought.

"It's been five years, how does everyone look so different?" Alec wondered aloud, staring at the people around him. Some faces were recognisable: cheerleader Farrah Davies still had implants and a tendency to curl her hair until it burnt, Daniel Houston never got rid of his braces or pocket dictionary.

"Woah, Sarah J's tits got huge!" Jay raised his eyebrows, staring as she walked past, stopping to wink at him. He spun around to meet Alec's glare.

"But.. not as big... as yours?" He said unsurely.

Devon stood on her heels to pat him on the shoulder. "Keep it in your pants, Stryder, you have a fiancé."

"Right, love you sexy tits." He kissed Alec on the cheek.

Alec and Devon rolled their eyes in unison, before walking into the hall, Jay in pursuit.
