Elle Addams had had quite the change. When Devon had first seen her, she was a shy, bubbly girl with a flannel and a backpack. Now? She was everything Devon wanted and then some. She had grown into herself, left that awkward sixteen -year-old body everyone had the pleasure of obtaining once in their lives.
Her hair had darkened to a dirty blonde which fell in ringlets down her shoulders, a stark contrast to her shoulder-length, uniform hair from years before. Her skin was clear and flawless, her eyes a soft hazel, almost black in the dim lighting of the room. Colours danced across her irises as the room's lights hit them. Devon felt herself going red, overwhelmed by emotions.
She was surprised, angry, in love and upset all at once. And that puts strain on a drunk girl.
Devon and Elle's eyes met, communicating silently as if to say who was going to make the first move. Who was going to punch the ice until their knuckles bled? Who was going to submerge themselves into the numbing ache of water until their lungs were full? Or quite simply:
Who was going to take the first step?
Turns out, it was Devon. She stepped forward, almost awkwardly, catching the glare from the red-headed girl besides Elle. She was really pretty, with porcelain skin and soft brown eyes similar to Elle's. Her hair was straight and long, flowing down her shoulders as if she was a Disney Princess.
Devon, with Alec in close pursuit, eventually reached Elle and the girl. It seems that everyone was a little stuck for words, until the ginger girl cut through the silence.
"Elle, care to introduce me?"
"Uh," Elle's voice had gotten a little deeper, more...
Sexy, said the tequila.
"This is Alec, he was my best friend since we were 14. And this is Devon, we were... friends of friends."
Alec turned to Devon, a puzzled look on his face. Devon then turned to Elle, an almost natural sarcastic smile on her face that seemed to perfectly capture 'this bitch'.
"It's so lovely to meet you, my name is Amelia!" The ginger girl exclaimed, her pale skin glowing with happiness. What Devon would give to have that.
"So, uh," Devon started before she realised her voice was gruff. She let out a polite cough and continued. "Are you Elle's...uh..."
"She's my, uh, girlfriend." Elle smiled, kissing Amelia on the cheek. "The love of my life."
Devon let out a laugh of utter disbelief before freezing, realising what she had done. Elle and Amelia glared at her judgementally, Alec looking around the room awkwardly.
"Noididn'tmeanitlikethatipromiseohmygodletmebuyyoubothadrink-" She waffled, feeling herself blush with embarrassment. Amelia burst out laughing immediately after.
"We're kidding, sweetie."
Patronising bitch, Devon thought to herself.
The lighting became softer and the speakers started to play a much softer song, prompting couples to giggle and awkwardly slow dance (like disabled penguins, Devon thought) around the dance floor. She recognised the song, letting out an involuntary sigh when she realised it had been one played by their band in high school.
"Hey, I have an idea!" Amelia clapped excitedly. "Elle, what if you and Danielle go up and dance? Friends of friends sake?"
"Yeah Danielle," Alec turned to Devon. "Go on."
Devon really, really didn't want to. And it didn't seem like Elle did either. Regardless, the two were nudged and prompted by Alec and Amelia.
