"Before I ask this question, you have to sign something." The doctor said.

He handed me a clipboard with papers stacked on top, with a pen attached to the surface.

I quickly signed the papers dealing with my child. Once I handed the clipboard back to him, he began talking.

"There is one stranger in these halls that also has cancer. He has been diagnosed with another type of cancer for one year and three months. You have to make a decision." He coughed and then began again.

"You either have to pick the man, or your daughter to live. We have very scarce treatments to give to everyone in this building, so please hold on and we will give you more information on this. " He said

I was shocked. "Doctor! I'm not going to do this! I haven't even met the fucking man!" I yelled at the man walking away.

He didn't answer. Instead he came back and handed me a letter.

Ms. Lyric,

You will have a choice. A choice in which you will change two lives; your daughter's, and a stranger. Both have been diagnosed with cancer. Your daughter has been diagnosed for a few days, but we have found out today. However, the stranger has it worst. He has been diagnosed with cancer, but for one year and three months. You will spend time with him, and get to know him. You will only have two weeks until you have to make a decision. A decision where you will risk one life for another.

-Doctor Clifford

I looked up to see Mr. Clifford gone. I shoved the letter into the pocket of my purse, and headed back into my daughters room.
