Hayden

I was sitting in a stupid, uncomfortable chair next to my brother, in my parent's lawyer's office. I don't even know why I'm here, I couldn't care less about this funny-looking guy with a high pitched squeaky voice. Like how did people even take him seriously? Whatever I don't know and I don't really care. But not only do I not care about this squeaky voiced lawyer, I care even less about what he has to say.
You see my parents died in a car crash last weekend; I know I sound like a terrible child right now thinking about how I don't care at all, but my parents treated me like shit. Like literal shit, I hated them when they were still alive and that hasn't changed now that they're dead. In fact, I'm kind of glad they're dead. Now I'm only stuck with my just as evil, possibly more so, older brother. He hates me just as much as my parents do... did. Although some people, if they knew what he was really like, would debate that he hates me even more than they did.
I flinched as I felt a kick to my chair, as if it wasn't uncomfortable enough already, like seriously? I glanced over at my brother to see a devilish smile on my brother's face. I sighed, I should have known it was him. What was he kicking me for? Did he even need a reason in his twisted brain? Probably not, but based on the fact that I could now hear my name coming out of that stupid lawyers mouth he had probably read something important in my parents fucking will.
"Hayden!" the lawyer snapped. I looked up at him,
"What do you want?" I asked. The lawyer narrowed his eyes, annoyed. He glanced down at the papers in front of him before glancing back up at me. He opened his mouth to tell me something, but I had already zoned him out again.
Boom I jumped at the sound of something hitting the table. The lawyer was seething both hands on top of a book that had just been slammed on the table.
"Have you listened to a word I've said!" he exclaimed. I stared at the funny looking man before me.
"You are a lawyer right?" I asked him, he cocked his head and stayed silent, which I took as a sign to continue, "Aren't you required to be, oh I don't know... professional?"
He just glared at me before lifting the book off of the papers that I guess were my parent's will and lifted the papers once more. He shuffled them until they were straight and spoke again.
"So as I was saying," he shot a glare at me, making sure I was actually listening this time, "Your parents death is a tragedy, and I am," he paused here taking a breath, "Deeply sorry for your losses"
I scoffed, rolling my eyes and received another kick from my brother, Kyle, this time though he didn't just kick the chair. He kicked my shin, hard. I shot him my nastiest glare before turning back to the lawyer deciding that Kyle wasn't worth it.
"But even though they are dead, there are still legal matters to attend to." he paused, "Including your parent's will" Kyle was staring at this guy, like he just wanted to devour him.
He then read some long ass confusing thing that I did not understand at all. I heard Kyle's name more than just a couple times, but I didn't hear my name at all. I knew that my parents would not leave me much, but it sounded like they hadn't left me anything at all.
"Can you dumb it down for us? We're not all fancy lawyers like you" Kyle snapped, he was getting impatient, like really impatient.
"Yes of course Kyle" the lawyer said, jerk. "To put it in simpler terms, your parents have left Kyle everything, and I mean everything. They left Hayden nothing"
I blinked in shock. I knew it. I knew they were assholes and that they hated me, but this was an all time low. They basically condemned me to a life on the streets and they knew it. There was absolutely no scenario in which Kyle would allow me to continue living at the house with him. That would never happen, especially since I turned 18 last month and could legally be on my own.
