"arch?"

wondering who it might be calling his name, archie turns his head and sees her.
of course it's her.
who else would it be?
and though he'd seen her a hundred times by now, he can feel the blood waking up his brain and his smile growing as their eyes meet; as if he'd just met her for the first time.

"hey, do you have a minute?" she asks in a serious way. archie didn't have a minute but of course he went with her anyway.
outside, behind one of the many containers the school was surrounded by, betty takes his hand.
and as her thin fingers touch his bruised knuckles, a wave of excitement hit his entire body. some may say the two were too different to be with each other, but that's what made them a perfect match.

archie andrews, the boy who is too busy being everyone's hero. his hair just as red as his lips and his body so very well built, some thought it was out of cement. archie is given a good looking and handsome face. it's covered in deep lines, that give him a craggy look.

and betty cooper? well, betty is delicate. tender and sweet. people used to say she was the ideal girl next door, but archie didn't think so. he's known her his whole life and yes, betty is perfect in every possible way, but not the way people think she is. there's so much more behind the innocent mask she's wearing.

"so, jughead is coming back tonight. i really want it to be perfect, arch. and i know you're busy with football and stuff but-" lowering her head, almost hiding her face as if she felt ashamed, she couldn't bare to finish the sentence. "hey, betty. it's fine. i'm in, whatever you need. always." he tells her and lifts her chin up to comfort her. the burden on her shoulders vanished, the second archie looks her in the eyes. for a minute, they just stood there in silence. but as soon as the corners of archie's lips curl, trying to hold back a chuckle, the silence broke and they both burst out in laughter.

archie could've sworn it was just them again. in a little bubble, isolated from the rest of the world. from jughead. jughead. god, how archie hates that guy. he loathes him.
the bubble breaks and anger pulses through his veins, almost consumes him.
his bare teeth show and his facial structure come to life.

she doesn't like you, idiot.
his thoughts slowly gain the upper hand.

his customary eyes, fulfilled with joy, disappeared and betty watched as his eyes turn cold and rigid. she was terrified of this archie. she didn't recognize the boy standing in front of her. she touches his cheek, searching for possible eye contact but now it was him feeling ashamed. "we've talked about this, archie. i simply can't... you know that" she tried to say in a polite way. he withdraw, looked her in the eye for one last time and just left without saying a word.

although it should be jughead on betty's mind right now, it was still archie.

why can't he simply just accept the fact that i love jughead and not him. i am meant to be with jug... or am i? no, i can't do this right now! god, he's making me crazy! it's been jughead since day one and it will always be jughead for me. end of story.

as she sits there waiting, it felt like hours were passing by. no text messages or calls. she takes a look toward the clock.
5:21
jughead was supposed to be there 21 minutes ago. he's always late and so irresponsible. making a phone call would be the best idea right now, so she takes her phone and types in his number. no one answered.
finding a way to distract herself from the endless waiting, betty went downstairs to get something to eat, until the door bell rang.

"archie" she says in the most relieving way possible. feeling deliriously happy, betty ran towards the door, her heart beating as fast as you can only imagine. she took a deep breath and opened it. and there he was.
in his usual hoodie and his black jeans archie stood there, his cheeks red from the cold, waiting for betty to invite him in. and she did.

as soon as he stepped foot in her house, he drew her into a tight and warm hug. as usually they were in their own little bubble again, but this time it seemed that no one could break it.
neither of them knew why it felt so good right now, maybe it was just a matter of time for the both of them to realize it, but it was clear that today was different. maybe it was betty, who had come to the realization that it's always been archie for her, or maybe it wasn't. maybe there is no answer for this question, maybe fate decided that their time is today. right now. in this very minute and very second.

as archie tried to let go of her, betty stopped him. this time, she won't let anything come between them. and for a moment, they just stared at each other. mesmerized by her beauty, archie pulls her face closer. "betty", he groans. it seemed like the archie she was so terrified of before, had never existed. her eyes filled with lust and desire stared into his, and it was like in films and books. electric.
their lips crushed and while archie felt like he was surrounded by millions of fireworks, betty could've sworn she was walking on water.

perfect wouldn't do it justice. that kiss was consuming. it made everything clear. as archie gasped for air and tried to kiss her again, she stopped him and placed her finger on his mouth.

"i want you, archie." she said passionately.
"only you."

and from that night on, archie and betty spent every minute of the rest of their lives together.
