It is 5:59 on that one dreadful morning that every teen or child hates, the first day of school. A minute passes, declaring the time to be 6:00. Belle Peterson's phone begins to blare the song I write sins not tragedies, with a caption on her screen stating, "Go back to sleep, someone will eventually come in to wake you up." Belle's eyes open slowly, she groans in frustration and turns off her alarm. Her eyes quickly shut and she tries to regain her sleep. A content smile spreads across her face as she suggles into her pillow and blanket.
Moments later, her mother walks into her room. "Wake up, darling." Belle mumbles something and pulls the blanket over her head. "Please," her mother pleads. "No, go away."
Her mother sighs, "Please wake up and get ready. Don't make this difficult on me."
"I said go away!"
"You have school today, get up!"
"Don't you mean hell?"
"Aribella Marie Peterson, get your ass off of this bed and get ready. I'll make you chocolate chip pancakes if you do as I say."
The mention of Belle's favorite breakfast meal has her springing up from the bed. Her mother smiles in sucess and walks out of the room.
Having showered the night before, Belle makes her way into the bathroom to take care of any other hygenic task. After completing that, she walks over to her closet to contemplate what to wear. She grabs pair of black, ripped skinny jeans, a black v-neck, and an army style jacket. Quickly, she tugs on her clothes and yanks her phone out of the charger.
When she opens the door, the familiar smell of pancakes fills her nose. She rushes down the stairs and into the kitchen. Belle sits in the chair beside her younger sister, Sky.
The two were complete opposites. Sky is a strikingly similar version to their mother, long blonde hair and green eyes. Belle took on their father's qualities, brown hair and blue eyes.
"You ready for sophomore year, Sky?" Belle asks groggily. Sky nervously twiddles her thumbs a bit, "I'm really nervous, I have chemistry this year. What if I fail?"
Belle rolls her eyes, "You're far too intelligent to fail anything. You'll
be fine." She places her hand on Sky's shoulder and squeezes it reassuringly.Their mother places two plates of chocolate chip pancakes in front of them. "Eat up, you guys have ten minutes." They begin to eat in silence.
After finishing her meal, Belle walks to the front door and grabs her black docs. A fresh pair of socks are placed into one of the shoes, she silently praises herself for thinking of that. She quickly puts her socks and shoes on.
"Come on Sky!" She yells impatiently, holding her keys in one hand and her bag in the other. Sky runs out of the kitchen with her bag, "Let's go."
~~~~~~
The black jeep pulls up into a parking spot. Belle turns off the ignition and grabs her bag from the back of the car. The two sisters exit and lock the car, then go their separate ways.
"BELLE!" Suddenly, two scrawny arms are wrapped around her waist and are lifting her from the ground. She looks down at her best friend and frowns. "If you don't put me down in 0.5 seconds, I'm going to set all of your clothes on fire."
"Well aren't you a happy camper," He comments sarcastically. "I'm walking on fucking sunshine, Fletcher," she mutters dryly.
Fletcher elbows her in the rib, "Come on, we're seniors! It's our last year. Plus, how could you be so angry with the world when there are so many hot guys surrounding us?"
