The cold wind wrapped its icy fingers around her neck making her twitch in fright. She showed no sign of movement. Her eyes were fixated on her target. Jennifer was petrified, no doubt. But she had to hide her fear. To be a reporter, a good one, you need instincts and courage. She followed her imsticts but does she have the courage to face them?
Next to her was David who, unlike her, made no effort to hide his fear. 25 years of safety only to be whisked away by the ruthless world of journalism. He was shivering from head to toe. Both of them took cover behind an over used car in an abadoned warehouse. The hideout of 'Black Dove' a smugglers group for a myriad of erroneous hobbies : drug dealing, human traficking and what not.
They shouldnt be here. But all thier reasearch and work done has lead up to this moment, a potential breakthrough in thier professional life. That is if they make it out alive.
Randall 'Randy' Jones, the multi millionaire was behind the entire operation. His double life as generuos public man and a ruthless prepatourous murderer is what makes it hard to find evidence of the atrocities he had committed.
But Jennifer was determined to expose them. She lifted uo her camera and adjusted the lens and tied her brown hair back.
"Maybe we should go back before they come" David suggested. Too many people had mysteriously disappeared over the past years. And he knows he will be next it. Is this worth risking thier lives over?
"No way" Jennifer said sternly. She should be brave. They will get out of this.
"So all we need is a video of Randall exchanging the drugs right" David asked twtching.
"Yeah"
"But this is an old saleshouse. There are just clothung items and what not"
"Shhh They are coming" Jennifer warned and they crouched back. Jennifer peeped out the lens a little and managed to get a good view of what was going on there.
"Boss, the packages are ready" One of the men wearing a hoodie spoke. His voice was of a monotone. Jennifer shrank back further and looked up at the screeen. Even though it was small it was sufficient to provide a good video of what was hapenning behind the car. Daniel caught her hand.
Randall removed his mask and pulled out a knife from his pocket. He was a large man who wore a black piece of clothing which unlike the rest had a satin bow in his neck. He had a scar from his right ear extending to his chin. His eyes were menacingly green, a trait that seemed to be possessed by the most beautiful or cunning. Randall meant business. He lifted up the nearest package, shoes.
"Perfect disguise" A girl spoke. Margory, the teenage girlfriend of Randall. A gold digger or not, she was upto no good.
Randall slit open the sole of the shoes, white powder spilled out: Cocaine. It was a clever way to smuggle drugs. Randall smiled. Jennifer smiled to herself. This was the proof they needed. She clicked a few photos and managed to turn a variety of angles despite limited movement. She was proud indeed and couldnt wait to see the amount of respect and pride she would get back home. A girl from the country could never get this far without taking risks.
"The van, its moving" David hissed causing Jennifer to wake up from her euphoria. Her nastiness alas got the better as she scouted over. In her effort to viee Randall turn to his van, her camera lens made a screechibg sound across the car. Jennifers face lost its color as she silently prayed to god that noone heard it.
Randalls smile broke down. He slowly turned his head to the right, dead centre at the camera. Jennifer quickly pulled it back and regretted it a second later. David looked at her in fear. She held his hand back. Did he see them? She stared at the camera screen. Shockingly they all had disappeared. Jennifer peeped out slowly much to Davids chagrin.
"Ahh We have visitors" Margory smirked as she caught Jennifers hair and pulled her from behind the van. The 18 year old dragged her to the ground and laid her in Randalls feet. Similarly David was flung next to her.
Jennifer tried to stay brave but she was completely ghasted. Her camera was still with her. She got the evidence.
"Journalists" Randall spoke in a calm voice. " The little kids are not supossed to mess with the adults". He proceeded to sit down and held Jennifer's head up. She was bleeding from her nose but her main focus was on getting the evidence out. She struggled to maintain reality.
Margory laughed maniacally.
"Take the camera" Randall ordered one of his henchmen. This one was also wearing a hoodie but he had a bottle in his hand. Empty bottle.
"Jenny Run" David shouted as he grasped out of the henchmens reach. He flung himself at Margory leaving Jennifer free. Jennifer came to her senses. She debated for a moment on what to do.
"RUN" David shouted as Margory overpowered him. Randall and his two henchmen looked in shock. Jennifer dived for the camera and slides towards the exit.
Behind her, someone banged a bottle at the cars front as it broke into shards. Jennifer without stopping turned back. David kicked Margory in the shin and started to run. Then his face turned white. Jennifer gasped as one of the men inserted the sharp end of the broken bottle to his stomach. Blood poured out as Davis stopped.
Jennifer stopped on her tracks as tears overcame her face. David, one last time, mouthed her to go. Then he slumped down the floor, head to one side, dead.
"Get her" Randall growled.
Jennifer unlocked the warehouse door as the men followed her. She managed to close the gate before they arrived. They banned their fists at the gate.
She took this time to run. Everything looked dizzy to her. She was tired and helpless.
After about 5 minutes of running, she paused to take a breath. Topell Bridge. She knew she wasn't safe. Unfortunately no-one was near her. She was all alone. She quickly got into business. She removed the chip from the camera with the video in it. From her pocket she took out her phone water proof cover that journalists usually take in case of highly moisturous tracks. Drat it, she had dropped her phone in the warehouse.
She put the chip in the waterproof bag and debated what to do with it. Should she toss it in the water or make a run for it. But what if they find her.
To her shock, she heard noises. Someone was near her. Two voices.
"There she is"
Someone caught Jennifer's hand and she tried to wiggle out of it. It was Margory. Randall slowly walked into the dimwitted light from the street lamp. He smiled at Jennifer coldly.
"I will take that" Margory said as she snatched the camera from Jen. Jennifer staggered back and caught the railing. Before anyone could notice she dropped the chip in the water below.
"Margo Take back the camera to the base" Randall ordered her.
"Byut I wanna-"
"Do as I say" Randall spoke, quietly increasing his decibels. Margory reluctantly nodded and went off with the camera. Both the henchman replaced her position as they came running towards Randall
Jennifer looked at Rachel in unlredicament of what's going to happen her.
"Let me go" Jennifer pleaded. Randall pulled out a gun.
"Shush" He said as he pulled the trigger. Jennifer staggered back due to the momentum of the bullet. Her eyes turned white and blood poured out of her torso. Randall wiped off the blood from his shoe with no concern of her twitching body.
"Bring the boys body here. Make it look like He drowned her and killed himself"
Jennifer tried to get up but she was losing herself.
" What about the girl?" One of the men asked.
" Like I said Drown her" Randall said as he turned back not giving a fuck about the two bodies laying behind him. He smiled to himself.
Curiosity killed the cat.
