· Chapter 1
Sunlight streamed through the canopy of trees above us giving the world a greenish hue. It was possibly the most perfect Summer day I have ever seen. I squeezed tighter on the pillow I was carrying in my arms, finally I was back for my second year at camp tree peaks for girls. A whole month of escaping real life's stresses and worries. No school, no homework, not much drama, and no problem whatsoever. I walked, well not really, ran down the gravel paths.
"Hey! Wait up! It's my year, I Want to be the first one to the bunks!" My Older sister Jessie called out to me, but still kept a smile on her face. It was her C.I.T summer this year, The last year as a camper. It's basically thought of as the most important year. They get to choose a song to represent them and everything. I rolled my eyes, but I still ended up slowing down to let her pass. We may look nothing alike, her with her long coffee colored curls pulled up into a ponytail and her sky colored eyes, Me with my rust shoulder length waves and chocolate eyes, but we both believe that camp is the most important month of the year, and we both take tradition, very, very, seriously. I looked around and took in the familiar sights that seem to smile at me like old friends. The dining hall, the office, the dance stage, and the forest theater.
"Addison!" I called out to my perky counselor ,who at the moment, was carrying a clipboard and guiding the mini mob of lost looking new campers and parents. She paused for a second to wave to me.
" Hey Marnie, hey Jessie! I guess you're wondering what bunk you got this year!" She smiled warmly at us. Her blue green eyes crinkled up at the sides as she checked for our names on the board. "Marnie is in bunk hazel with most of the girls from last year, and a couple of newbie's. Your counselors are Creeselle Vorell, she's new here, and best of all, me! wow, you must feel special, First year as a senior!" Juniors were ages 7 to 11, low seniors were 12 to 13, and high seniors 14 to 15.But junior, or senior, all the girls usually kept being in the same bunks summer after summer, along with some new people to get used to. Addie continued " And Jessie, C.I.T year! I can tell you're excited, it’s the biggest year you know! you're in bunk Beech." She beamed at both of us. Addison has a way of always tilting her head in such a way, that sunlight hits her face, making her golden hair shine and giving her something close to a glow, to match her sunny personality. " Thanks Addie!" Jessie shouted over her shoulder, in a rush to start her camp experience.
Just then, my parents finally caught up to me.
"well she's in quite a hurry!" My mom said, hands on her hips.
My dad joined the conversation " Now why don't we get you unpacked first, and please hurry, theses bags are killing me!" My dad started taking the long walk up the hill known as rocky road, which is nothing like the ice-cream, and steep as a mountain. Plus ,it seems even longer if you're holding two girl's duffle bags, each with a month's worth of stuff in them. I looked at the walk in front of me. Besides a few lingering kids and their parents, the camp was pretty peaceful. That’s what's so great about driving to camp, you always get here before all of the buses. The ocean of people is now only one of the waves. After the long walk up rocky road was finished, we still had to get through junior village. I saw a bunch a first years clinging on to their parents for dear life. I tried to give them my most reassuring smile, which probably just ended up looking a little creepy. Finally we came up on senior lane. Senior lane is the path housing all of the senior bunks, except the C.I.T's . They have their own four bunks perched on a tall hill leading to the pool, and the upper soccer field named C.I.T circle. Way special. I looked around the area. I checked all of the names of the bunks in front of us. I crinkled up my forehead in confusion
