"Betty darling, can you come down here for a moment?" I heard my mom call. I was upstairs coloring in a Nancy Drew detective coloring book that I had gotten for my fifth birthday, making sure all the villains had purple faces.

"Coming!" I called, and ran down the stairs, stumbling a bit on the last one.

I felt myself start to fall and squealed in fright, but I was caught. I slowly opened my eyes to see a boy about my age, with dark hair and blue eyes, standing over me with a huge grin on his face. I noticed that his two front teeth were missing, and that gave him the goofiest smile.

"Betty this is Jughead. Jughead this is my lovely, ever so graceful daughter, Betty." I heard my mom say.

Jughead set me back up on my feet and held his hand out for me to shake.

"Your name is Jughead?" I asked, crinkling my nose as we shook hands.

"Elizabeth Cooper!" I heard my mom scold. "Manners!"

"It's alright Mrs. C. My real name is Forsythe Pendleton Jones the third." He said proudly, still shaking my hand.

I pulled my hand away and crinkled my nose again.

"So... why are you here?" I asked him. I heard my mother sigh loudly.

"Because Elizabeth. I am a close friend with Jughead's father, and he's asked me to babysit Jughead every day of the week over the summer while he works. And since your father is working at the Register more often than I am, I happily said yes." my mom said, smiling warmly at Jughead.

"Yeah, but I wish I wasn't stuck in a house full of girls." Jughead said, this time he was the one crinkling his nose.

"I bet I'm tougher than you though." I boasted. "And I'll bet you my lunch that I'm better at hide and seek."

"Deal!" Jughead said, grabbing my hand and shaking it with his hand.

Next thing I knew he was dashing out the back door, towards the garden hedges.

"Hey, I wanted to be the first hider!" I yelled after him. When I got no response, I scowled and started to count.

Jughead ended up winning, but he said he was "feeling generous" and said that I could still have my lunch.

I jumped up to the counter and grabbed my peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and handed the other to Jughead.

"Peanut Butter and Jelly?! My favorite!" Jughead said, stuffing the sandwich into his mouth, not even waiting to sit down.

I crinkled my nose at him again as I sat down at the table, eating my peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

"Peanut Betty." Jughead said, sitting down in the chair across from me, his sandwich long gone.

"Piggy Jughead." I said, handing him a napkin to wipe off the peanut butter and jelly that was all over his face.

"Peanut Betty and Jelly Jughead." Jughead said as he cleaned his face, giggling.
