"Why does he hate me so much?" I could hear the pain loud and clear through my phones receiver.
"What happened now, Bella?" I asked, knowing I will be hearing about Jason again. I didn't really mind though, as long as I am talking to her.
"I walked into my room to find Jessica, you know my roommate, aka my BEST FRIEND and Jason MAKING OUT on MY BED!" Now the anger replaced the pain.
"Wow. I'm so sorry, babe." I said, with experience I kept my response light and sympathetic. It's what she wanted to hear.
"How can he be moving on? I thought we had something special."
"My own little heartbreak girl." I called her by her nickname to try to lighten the mood a bit.
"Is it because I'm not sexy enough? I know Jess got a boob job, that slut, but is that why Jason picked her over me?" Apparently it didn't work.
"Bella Shay Rodgers, don't ever ask me that question again, your beautiful. And I think your boobs are fine." More than fine I think, but I don't say that in the phone.
"You have to say that, you’re my best friend!" She whines.
Trying to find a quick way out if that topic before saying something I would regret, I ask, "So, where you now?"
"Hiding in the bathroom, I think he left but Jessica is still there and I don't even want to see her. Oh no, Luke! I can't stay here tonight! What do I do?"
"Hey come here tonight and we will go get ice cream and stay up all night watching movies. Sound good?"
"Ohemgee! I love you so much, why can't I find a guy like you?" I'm right here Hun, I want to say.
"I'm sorry; I'm one of a kind. You got to settle for second best." I joke instead.
"Kay, I'm going to head over right now," She said a submissive tone, "And Luke, thanks for being a friend." She said as her normal good bye. Every time she said that it was worse than a punch in the gut.
The truth was I am in love with my best friend. Of course there's Calum, but we've known each other for a few years. He's my dude best friend. Bella is my best friend since first grade. We know everything there is to know about each other.
When puberty hit and I grew six feet tall, Bella turned an every mans nightmare. With curves that can kill, a crystal clear complexion, a tight athletic body, and the perfect lips...she was hearts everywhere. Including mine. The only exception was Jason, he was doing the braking and I wanted to do the smashing,
I gave up on is being a couple, even though I knew I was the best choice for her.
Letting out a big sigh, I left my room and entered the kitchen to tell the boys about my plan tonight.
"Aye, dude it's Saturday, no plans?" Michael asked. His multicolored hair was messed to perfection (his version of perfection) and he was fully dressed. I could tell he had plans.
"Bella's staying the night." I responded grabbing the ingredients for sandwiches for me and Bella.
"Fuck yeah." he answered wiggling his eyebrows.
I rolled me eyes and left as soon as I finished making my dinner.
"Ash and Calum are out to the movies so you have the place to yourself for a few hours. Use it wisely." Michael called as he left through the front door. Chewing on my bottom lip, playing with my piercing, I wondered if it was such a good idea that I decided to live with my other three band mates.
Don't get me wrong, I love them like brothers and I wouldn't choose anyone else to make music with...but being with them 24/7 can be a bit if a headache. I wouldn't change it for the world though.
"Luke?" I hear a sweet voice call from the front door. Bella has my spare key and let's herself in at anytime.
"I'm in the TV room!" I shout back. I had butterflies in my stomach from the excitement I felt towards seeing her. But seeing her face as she walked in, as usual it took my breath away. She had her long, dark, brunette hair in a braid over her shoulder, "softies" as she calls them, one of my sweatshirts, and no makeup. She's as beautiful as ever.
"Thank you thank you thank you!" She squealed as she ran across the room and jumped on me, giving me a hug and having her legs around my waist. She was feather light to me, weighing only 115.
"What would I do without you?" She whispered against my neck. Goose bumps littered my skin.
"Probably die." I answered simply.
"Right you are." She jumped off me and stood on her tiptoes and I leaned down so she could give me a kiss on the cheek. If only I could move my face a fraction of an inch, I could confess without words. She wasn't ready though, still caught up in Jason.
Would she reject me? I know I've been friend zoned in a sense, but would she reject me when we pass the just friends actions?
"What are you thinking about?" She asked, stroking my bottom lip. I felt my little man twitch, and I tried desperately to ignore that. "You chew your lip when you're thinking about something." This girl knows me better then I know myself.
"That I'm absolutely hungry." I lie, knowing that's what she's expecting to hear. "I made you a sandwich to eat before we go get ice cream. I made it just the way you wanted it."
"Perfect," she patted my cheek and skipped towards the kitchen.
After we shoved our faces and drank enough root beer for Africa, she went to grab her purse.
"Bring it if you want, but I'm paying." I say to her, raising an eyebrow.
"Fine, but can we walk please?" She asked, "It's like the perfect weather."
How will I ever be able to say no to her? "Ugh, why not."
"Thank you Luke, I wuv you!" she said back with a baby voice.
Laughing, I took her hand in mine, casually lacing our fingers together. She didn't mind, but it probably meant more to me then it did to her.
As I locked the door behind me, she tugged on my hand like an impatient two year old. "Hurry up!"
Finally, which seemed like forever, we made it to the I've cream shop. Seeing her face light up with excitement made me happy. Just because.
"What are you getting?" She questioned.
" I honestly have no idea." I answered truthfully. "Pick for me, please.
“Can I have to sherbet cones, please?" She said to the ice cream lady. I rolled my eyes, I knew it was coming.
We left the shop and she begged to walk around the park as we ate. I remembered the pain in her voice from the conversation and I would do anything to keep the smile she had on her face.
With the occasional scream of joy from a child, to the druggy shuffling by us, nothing could break this moment for me. If I could take a remote and press pause, this moment would be captured forever.
I hate my ice cream before she was able to finish half; I could see the snarky jab about me being unable to eat something without swallowing whole, blah, blah, blah. Instead something caught in the corner of her eye.
"Oh shit! It's Jason and that bitch, Jessica!" Sure enough they were both holding hands walking towards us. I hoped I could hold my anger in, but I knew I would be able to keep myself under control when I felt Bella squeeze my hand even tighter. When I looked down at her though, I could tell she wasn't going to be able to keep it under control.
