Chapter 3: What Is Happening?

I ran to my car, thinking about nothing but Hayes. If anything had gone wrong, I would be devastated. Honestly, if something tremendous happened, he would tell me. Since Hayes means the world to me, I'm going to find out. Finally on the road, I don't bother to turn on the radio or air conditioner.

Hayes only lives about three blocks down, so it shouldn't take me too long to reach him. As soon as I get in my parking space, I jump out and run to the door. I open it, run to the elevator, press 17, and wait. The elevator is incredibly slow when you are in a rush.

As soon as it hits 16, I'm at the door and ready to get out. When the doors open, I run to 77b. There, I ring the doorbell twice and knock once. A minute later, Hayes opens the door, invites me in, and closes the door.

I quickly say, "What's going on?" He hesitates. "I felt so bad earlier. I just wanted to make it up to you." He finally says. "Hayes-" he interrupts, "Lauryn, you deserve it." he says. " We deserve it." too tempting. "Deserve what?" I knew exactly what he meant. "Lauryn-" he begins to say when I interrupt, "Hayes, you called me and nearly scared me half to death to tell me you wanted sex?" I say. "I thought that you were mad." he says. "Mad. You thought I was mad. That's not a reason to-" I say when he interrupts, "What are you saying? Are you saying we should break up?" this has gone too far.

"No. Of course not. Hayes, you know I love you. I promised I would never leave you." I say.
