It was a struggle to get my toothbrush out of the container it was held in with my long acrylic nails that I had just gotten that day. I reached to turn on the faucet and wet my toothbrush before putting on the toothpaste and scrubbing my teeth.
Once I had finished I rinsed out the sink and put my toothbrush back, washing my face with the new face scrub I bought and heading into my room. As I walked in my phone binged, and I picked it up to find a 'good night' text from my mom.
'Lol, too lazy to come up the stairs and say good night?' I replied with intentions to bring humor into the conversation.
'Olivia, I'll come up there if you're gonna get an attitude.' She typed.
That didn't work out.
'Sorry, momma.' I said reluctantly. She wasn't having a very good day today so I should have known that she wouldn't have taken my sense of humor kindly.
'It's ok, now get some rest. I'll see you in the morning, ❤️.'
'Good night.'
That ended the conversation and I clicked my phone off, plugging it in and pulling my binder out of my backpack. I sat down on my bed and covered my legs with blankets, opening my binder and staring at all the homework I had to do. I ran my fingers through my light brown hair and sighed, why did school have to be so stressful?
I decided against my responsibilities and put it all away, opening up a book that I had checked out from the library on Friday. I read one page, and another, and another, then before I knew it it was 12:43am.
Shit.
I quickly shoved the book in my backpack and turned off the lamp that sat on my nightstand by my bed. I was gonna be hella tired tomorrow. I got snuggled under the covers and drifted to sleep in no time.
I groaned in irritation at the sound of my alarm. I picked up my phone to see that it wasn't my alarm, but a phone call from my best friend, Kyllee. I checked the time and it was 4:30am, but despite that, I answered.
"Why are you calling me so early?" I asked groggily.
"Get up, sleepy head!" Kyllee cheered, "let's go for a walk."
"What?" I whined, still half asleep.
"I said, let's go for a walk. We can go down to the store and buy snacks before school." She elaborated.
"Why so early..?" I asked.
"We have to be in class by 7:00am, so waking up at 4:30 gives you an hour and a half to get ready and an hour for us to get snacks and go to the school." She explained.
Even though I was running on like 4 hours of sleep, it sounded fun. So I agreed to go and I got out of bed. I went into the bathroom and brushed my teeth, coming back into my room to get dressed. I wore a pair of black jeans with holes in the knees and a white tank top with a black and grey unzipped windbreaker over it.
I put my hair in a messy bun and left a few strands out here and there to complete the lazy look, then I went over to my vanity and did a full face of makeup. After I added the finishing touches, I picked out a pair of shoes from my closet. I decided to wear my black and white checkered Vans.
I looked at myself in my body mirror and I looked like the most basic white bitch alive, but I rocked it. I picked up my grey backpack from beside my bed and threw it over my shoulder, grabbing my phone, and heading downstairs. I Facetimed Kyllee and she answered.
"What's up bitch," I giggled.
"Hey girlie, you lookin' cute!" She complimented.
"Thanks."
I propped my phone up and we continued talking as I grabbed a bagel from the cupboard, cutting it in half and spreading cream cheese over both halves. I ate it in less than 5 minutes and made myself coffee, putting the drink in a thermos with a straw to drink from.
"You ready?" Kyllee asked me and I nodded in response.
"Oh, let me text my mom first so she knows why I'm gone so early." I said.
I picked up my phone and switched from the Facetime screen to my messages, typing a quick message to my mom.
"Okay I'm coming outside, let's meet halfway." I said to Kyllee as I walked out the front door, sipping my coffee.
"I'm on your street already, I'll be there in like 2 minutes." She told me.
"Oh, alrighty then." I said and hung up on her.
It was around 6:00am and Kyllee stopped on the sidewalk in front of my house. I crossed my lawn and met her there, then we walked down the street towards the mini market down the road.
"Oh my God," Kyllee gasped, "did I tell you the news about Jared?"
I looked at her, puzzled, "no."
I knew Jared was a guy that Kyllee really liked, but I never heard about him much.
"He asked Sophia out," she told me.
"...And you're not upset?" I assumed, seeing that her facial expression did not change.
"Oh, I am." She said, and there was a moment of silence before she laughed and continued, "but they won't be together for long."
"Oh no, Kyllee, not again." I breathed.
"Oh yes, Olivia, again." She said.
"Well I know I can't stop you, but I'm not helping this time!" I frowned.
"That's okay. I have it all planned out."
"Okay well, how do you know he'll ask you out after him and Sophia break up? What if he really likes her and you make him devastated, then he won't want to ask out anyone." I pointed out.
"I know that Jared is all about popularity, and that's his weakness. He's not gonna sit around moping over one girl, he'll move onto the next best thing--me." She said smugly.
"What makes you so confident that you're the next best thing?" I asked.
"Don't worry, I have my ways."
"Yikes, are you gonna blackmail Sophia?" I asked.
She chuckled and ran ahead of me, a clear sign that I was right. I ran after her.
"You're terrible," I said while shaking my head.
"Nah, I just know what I want and how to get it."
We chatted about different things until we reached the store. I bought a ton of goodies with the $20 I had saved for things like this, and I shoved them all in my backpack. It was 6:36am and the school was about 15 minutes away from the store, so we had to hustle.
We got out of the store after paying and speed walked all the way to the school, going to our lockers and splitting up to go to our separate homerooms. I sat down in my chair only a minute before the bell rang, opening my binder and working on a bit of the homework that I was supposed to do last night.
I looked up from my papers to see Jaylin, my crush, talking to a different girl with a wide smile on his face. He talks to me just how he talks to that girl, and my heart sank with that realization. Sometimes I wished I were more like Kyllee, knowing how to get what I want. I shook my head as if to clear my thoughts, and I continued to work until the bell rang for first period.
