I sat on the bench a slight chill in the air. The Sidewalk covered in trash and cigarette butts had a small crowd roaming on it. Perfect for me, the street hasn't been to peaceful in the last month all ready had to bury two of my Friends. Them and my brother were always committing crimes, small time ones just maintaining and surviving. But two weeks into the violence a van pulled up to a drug stash and bullets sprayed them both down. I was lucky to stay inside that day. Since then the hood has been progressively getting worse with no sign of improvement.
It wasn't even that better before hand either just but at least I could sit on a bench without being paranoid about catching a bullet. Regardless it was the same grey bleak sky, the same litter and broken class on the sidewalk, the same rundown slums it was a month ago. But the attitude has changed, the gang bangers and cocaine dealers who roamed the street were a bit more edgy as I was. Always looking up and down the block waiting for the next nigga to try and blast them.
It isn't really known why all this violence started to most it is just known as some random killings. The drug game here has barely been touched by it and the illegal gambling ring has only had two minor killings. But I know a little from my brother Kvan, he told me someone has his hands on some diamonds. I'm suppose to be meeting him here in order to get a place away from the violence.
Looking up and down the sidewalk paranoid and anxious for my brother to arrive so we can get things settled. Then I spot him, he walked out of an nearby Alley and made his way to me eyes full of fear and hands in his Blue sweater pockets. His dark brown skin and eyes were the same as mine and his bald head was covered by the hood of his sweater.
"What up Nate," He said a crack in his voice as he sat down eyeing every car that passed by. I couldn't judge him, I was suspicious of everything that moved.
"Don't matter we got the set up or what," I asked referring to a Hotel in the heart of Vincent City he mentioned where we could stay while this entire thing calmed down.
"We gonna need a hundred grand," he stated as a car pulled up across the street outside of the Liquor store. We both looked over as two men with dark skin stepped out of the car. Looked like they were from around are neighborhood but i'm not sure. When they walked inside the store I turned to my brother once more his dark skin covered by his blue hoodie.
"Where the fuck we gonna get a hundred grand Kvan," I asked irritated and he looked around one more time and pulled out something small out of his pocket cautious.
"With this nigga," he said in a low voice. The small object gleamed in the son and I grew pale at the sight. The small Diamond sat in between of his finger and thumb and I looked up at him in disbelief.
"Where in the hell did you fi-," I tried to ask before his eyes widened as he dropped the diamond and reached for his belt. My heart sank, I went off the bench onto the sidewalk from the bench and reached to the side of my belt as I saw the two men from before run out the store with pistols aimed for us. Kvan pulled his pistol out and shot twice before jumping over the bench. Before I could get mine out gunshots rang as bullets slammed into the bench, I jumped up and dashed for the Alley Kvan came from getting my pistol out. Bullets slammed into the building walls and screams pierced the air as people on the block ran from the scene.
Among the screams I heard one that broke my heart, I turned to see Kvan on the floor holding his chest bullets slamming into him as he laid on the floor.
"KVANNNNN," slipped from my mouth as I screamed with all my lungs and raised my pistol to the two. Squeezing the trigger four times saw one of them collapsing to the floor as the other one fired back sending me ducking as bullets slammed into the wall behind me. With the sights lined with him I pulled the trigger hearing the bang of the bullet again and again as he jerked wildly until my gun was empty. Without a thought I ran towards Kvan who now laid in a pool small pool of blood as he whimpered tears filling my eyes.
"Fuck.... Agh ," was all that came from his mouth as I fell to the floor holding him in my arms swearing under my breath looking around the tears in my eyes blinding me.
"N-Nate..... take the Diamond... Ru-..sians," he muttered as he pulled a small red bag from his pocket putting it to my chest and I took it as he begun to close his eyes and tears began trailing down my cheeks.
"You Fucking Idiot," was all I can say as he chuckled loosing conciseness eyes dimming. I laid him down on the blood stained floor standing up, empty pistol in my hand and a bag of Diamonds I ran down the block with both anger and sorrow in my heart.
