"ROSALINA!!" My sister, Maria screamed at me from outside my bedroom door. She was always the morning person in our family, basically my personal alarm clock.
"ROSA...LINA" She screamed again, this time banging on the door. I finally rose from my bed and opened the door.
"What?!" I was not in the mood for this today. I had meetings lined up for the whole day and just needed one extra hour of sleep.
"I made you breakfast." I looked down and she was holding a tray full of food. How could I be mad now ?
"Thank you." I took the tray from her hand and set it on a near by table. I then returned back to the door way to give her a giant hug.
Maria was twelve years old. She was eleven when my parents passed away. It's just been us for a few months. Does it suck ? Extremely. At the end of the day, mom and dad wouldn't want us to sit around sulking. We had a duty to our people and I promised to fulfill it.
After devouring the breakfast Maria made me, I was headed off to get ready. I wore a navy blue, long sleeve dress that ended right below my knees. My hair was up in a braided crown and I chose dangling earrings for today.
When I finished getting put together, I headed downstairs into our boarding room. It was in the left side of the castle and was decorated around a wooden theme. My father spent most of his time there, it was one of my favorite rooms to be in as a kid.
Instead of seeing my father at the head of the table, the chair was empty. The rest of the chairs were filled with elderly men and woman who say they knew me as a kid. Most of them, I haven't seen in my entire life. They chatted amongst themselves as I walked to the empty chair. None of them exactly noticed me except for a few glances.
I wish I got the same respect my parents did. They would walk into a room and everyone's world automatically revolved around them.
I cleared my throat as I set my things down on the table.
"Thank you to everyone for coming. Today we have to discuss..." I began to list off a million things that needed to be done in a short amount of time. I don't know how my parents always had such enthusiasm for this stuff. I would be passed out half way through this meeting.
The most important thing was a ball that Juvela was hosting for a cancer charity. It was at the end of the week and I still hadn't decided what the castle was going to do.
Roses or daisies? Gold or silver? Lots of lights or minimal lighting?
There was just so much choices and I couldn't decide on anything. I wanted to just push it off on a council member but I would be proving them right. That I didn't deserve such a job or the respect that it demands.
Truth is ? I didn't. That didn't mean I wasn't going to try to earn it.
