Emily's POV
Chapter Three
"And that was One Direction with 'One Thing'!" my mom says, through the speakers. "Thanks mom. And this is us...being late!" I say looking at my watch and seeing 5:30pm. "Holy crap!" Deanna says, grabbing her bag, my wrist, and running out the door. I'm pulled behind her, only given enough time to snatch my own bag off the bed. We ran out of the room, leaving my mom's somewhat animated voice to announce "Some Nights" by Fun. The door closed behind us, Locking with a loud click. Deanna pulls me to the elevator bank and finally releases her grip on my wrist, making me realize actually how hard she was squeezing it. She stood there, the vibe of her impatience could be not only seen by her practically shaking, but it also filled the room with a contagious aura that made my anxiousness become just that much more uncontrollable. I take another look at my white Rolex knockoff and widen my eyes at the fact that we have only been waiting for an elevator for barely a minute. The anticipation is killing both of us from the inside out. "What time is it?" Deanna asks, continuing to shift her weight from one foot to the other, waiting on one of the three elevators to ding. "Five Thirty-Tw-" im cut off by the merciful ding of the middle elevator. I sighed in relief, chasing D through the metal doors. "So it's about a five minute subway ride, right?" she asks, turning to me. I could hear the fear in her voice, almost as if she was doubting the fact that we would make it to the concert on time. "Deanna? Yes." I say, taking her face in my hands. "Do you really think I would let us be late for the best night of our lives?" I ask, raising my eyebrows. She shakes her head, so I drop her chin. The elevator descends the seventeen floors separating us from the lobby and we hop on out. We check our purses before we leave, just to make sure we have our tickets, sound check passes, and extra money for that necessary tee shirt after the concert. D and I nod when we find that everything's in order. We walk out with smiles painted across our faces and wave to the man and woman at the front desk. We run out to the main road and hop on a subway. "Well this surely is different." Deanna says as we walk out of the subway station. I could tell she was looking at the same thing I was. We both craned our necks to look up to the endless skyscraper that did exactly what it's name entitled it to do: scrape the sky. Our mouths drop at the astounding height. "Sure is." I agree. Deanna and I are from A small town in southern Texas where all we knew were bare feet, blue jeans.summer bonfires, and our weekly riding tours. We looked at each other and nodded as if to say "We can do this." Dallas is the biggest city we've ever been to. And it's pretty intimidating if you ask me. We take each other's hands, knowing we were going to need it. Eventually, we made it to the venue...about half way through sound check. We hear the boys warming up so we run as fast as we can and hand our passes to the collector at the gates. We start walking in when the man out stretches his arm, blocking us off. "Sorry, ladies." he says. "They're closing down for now. Can't let anybody else in." he adds. I look at D and watched her face drop with mine. "But sir, we have passes-" I say, trying to reckon with the gentleman. "I'm sorry ma'am." he says, cutting me off. "Sound check is over. I'll start letting people in in about half an hour. Come back then." he says.
