There's nothing but darkness, pure black. I can't even see my hands.
It's quiet. I can't even hear my own breaths.
I'm floating. How am I floating? Where's the ground?
Suddenly, echos of laughter ring inside my ears. Soft at first, but it gradually gets louder.
'Not this again...'
"AHAHHAHAHA!" The demon's laughter gets stronger and stronger. Light started to flicker out of nowhere, and suddenly the faces of the lost teens appear right in front of me, like a big TV screen. All of them looked distraught and pained. All of them made incoherent sounds- screaming, gasping, moaning, groaning and choking. I couldn't bear to watch them suffer, but no matter how hard I tried to resist, I just couldn't stop staring.
One face in particular was haunting me the most. She was right in front of my face, closer than all the others, looking directly at me, glaring. Her eyes were glowing white while her whole body was engulfed with glowing dark matter. It looked like she was being eaten alive. Bits and pieces of her were floating away, turning into dust, just like everyone else. However, unlike the rest, she extended her hand out, trying to reach something. It was like she saw me for real, and was begging for me to save her.
The lights start flickering again, and in a blink of an eye, the tortured teens disappeared and in their place was low and behold the yellow triangular demon himself, Bill Cipher, laughing.
"AHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA! Watch out kid! Thing's are gonna get weird, really weird. AHAHAHAHA!" The demon taunts in my face. I'm the size of an ant compared to it at this moment. Light's flicker again, and I see Bill multiplying by 6.
"I'd watch my back if I were you! I see e-ve-ry-thing you do!"
"Poor lil Donny, guilt builds up rapidly huh? AHAHAHA!"
"You must feel terrible that you caused someone to crumble, and then they actually do! AHAHAHAHA!"
"SHUT UP! JUST SHUT UP!! YOU WOULDN'T UNDERSTAND! YOU MONSTER!!" I screamed at all 6 Ciphers. The demon's merge back into one big yellow triangle.
"Oh hoho is that so?"
"Yeah! And stop bothering me! I'm not one of your 'players' so you have no right to interfere with my life!" I yell at him, but all I get in return is his laughter.
"AHAHAHA oh boy you really are clueless! Nevermind though, it'll be entertaining to see you get confused after all the secrets and mysteries unravel! AHAHAHA!"
... What?
"Oh yeah, you're more entangled into this game than you thought kid. But fine I won't pop around this joint anymore, this dark void is getting boring- ugh!" Bill Cipher comes closer and a glowing ring of blue symbols of sorts appear around him, as he says final words "But remember Donny, you might be safe now, but not for long. Look out kid, I'll be watching you~"
*BEEP BEEP*
I jolt out of bed. Another common night, another unique nightmare, constantly reminding me of my past. It's been a nearly a year now, I'll be 17 soon, yet those teens... They're still missing. Judging by how they were when they got abducted, it'd a miracle if they survived this long at all.
I don't even go to Jekyll's High School anymore. I moved to a different school- Carlos' Tech for Wimps Boarding School(yes, the name is oh so flattering)- as soon as the opportunity came, and I never turned back. Do I miss it? Sometimes for the sake of what's left of my friends, but I'd rather not go back ever.
*4:35 a.m.*
'Welp, I better hurry before all the other boys hog the showers' and with that thought I make my way out of bed. Today's a new day, a.k.a. another day of being busy.
*1:45 p.m.*
My,
Brain,
Hurts. Not to mention that I almost hammered a nail directly into my own left thumb. The mere thought of it is enough to make me gag.
Fortunately, it's lunch time now, after that I'll have some free time. Usually I'd study or finish up homework but today I think I'll just take a 10 minute nap.
I grab a few ham and cheese sandwiches from the cafeteria and make my way to a secluded part of my school. It's a small nook behind all the buildings that overlooks a nearby town, and since my school was conveniently built on a hill, the sight is never less than breathtaking. Especially at dawn, when the sun rises, and of course at night, when all is calm and the lights down below rival the twinkling stars in the sky.
Best part about it? There's shade! By shade I mean a big tree. Sometimes I wonder why nobody comes here, it's so peaceful.
As I get comfy under the shady tree, I unwrap one of the ham and cheese sandwiches and take a bite. I start keeping myself busy in my head. Studying, doing homework, exercising, playing sports, yadayadayada~
Anything other than the nightmares and dreams I get at night. Yes, I get dreams too, but it always has something to do with the tragedy of 2019.
"Fighting your own thoughts won't help yknow." I jump at the sudden voice. I see a girl my age standing- I mean floating in front of me. I stare wide eyed at what I'm seeing.
'How...?'
I close my eyes shut and hope to God it's just another figment in my head. But when I open them, she's still there. "I'm not a ghost Donovan, although I might as well be.. I'm very much alive." She says.
"No. No you're not. You disappeared a year ago. You're not here, you're not real. You're just a figment of my imagination." I say in denial. "Have I ever appeared randomly in front of your own two eyes while you're awake and talked?" She sighs. "Well, you're in front of me now. Go back to the back of my head!" I yell the last part out.
"Donny you know I meant besides now.." she says, obviously knowing I'd answer that way. "Well no but-"
"Then that pretty much proves I'm not all in your head. Listen, I know you'd love to forget me completely, but your life is gonna be in danger Donny." She says quickly, cutting me off.
"I don't know how long I can keep Bill at bay. Things are gonna change veryyy quickly. You're most likely not gonna like what you'll find out, but when the time comes I know you'll know what to do. Just please take care of yourself properly." She pleads, giving me a face she knows is my weakness.
I think about my response for awhile, before whisperin "How could I trust you? How do I know you're real? I don't even trust myself.." I look down, unsure and afraid.
"Donovan Truman, have I ever lied to you?" She says, and I look up. "Trust me Donny, I'm real. I'm not playing around. Time's running out, you're gonna have to face the music." I look away, ashamed of myself, I don't want to believe her and she can tell.
I feel a ghost like chill on my left hand as she mutters her last words to me, "Be safe...." I turn around and of course, she's gone.
I look at my sandwich, and throw it into a nearby garbage bin. I get up and quickly walk back to my dorm. I'm not hungry anymore, nor am I sleepy- I just feel sick to my stomach.
Everyday I try. I try and try and try but to no avail, the ghosts of my past haunt me every single day. I can never escape, no matter how hard I try. Now, I have a feeling I'm gonna get sucked into it even further. Bill Cipher's words last night start ringing in my ears over and over;
"I'll be watching you~"
