Panic! At The Disco - Nicotine

i. Burn my lungs and curse my eyes

He watches as she exhales, the smoke curling into the air and hanging in a cloud. The cloud would have choked the boy he used to be, but now it is an aura that hangs around him constantly.

ii. I'm going numb, I've been hijacked

She slides the cigarette from between her lips, studying the burnt-out end before flipping it around in her fingers and pressing it to her thumb, face betraying no pain as it hisses, the embers fading as the heat leaks into her skin.

iii. I taste you on my lips and I can't get rid of you

She turns to him, red lips glinting in the moonlight, dark eyeliner accentuating eyes like obsidian pools, pools he was drowning in, lips that had claimed his senses.

iv. You're worse than nicotine

He turns away, ripping his eyes from hers and taking a drag of his own. She'd had him hypnotised from the start, and it was getting harder to turn away each time. His fingers drum lightly on the bench beneath him, unblemished silence hanging between them in the smoke cloud he breathes out.

v. It's better to burn than to fade away

He turns back to her as the smoke drifts away, the air charged as she holds her hand out. The pack falls from her lap, spilling white and orange tubes onto the ground as she stands, pulling him with her as she starts running. Flames begin to lick the bench behind them as his half-finished cigarette spills hungry tongues onto the wood.

vi. It's better to leave than to be replaced

Guilt flashes through his mind as he follows her, destruction fading behind them. One day he would leave. One day he'd face that she could find someone else to use like he'd used him in a heartbeat.

vii. Just one more hit and then we're through

But for now he let her control him, forcing unease to turn into adrenaline as her hair, red as the flames, flew as her head whirled round, laughter on her lips and carefree, vengeful mirth deep in her eyes.
